Can someone list every reason why axolotl would lose their gills? Posted: 12 Oct 2021 08:30 AM PDT I've had my little guy since June and as of right now the water parameters are perfect. Ph is around 6.8, 0 ammonia, 0 Nitrate, 0-.5 Nitrites. In a 20 gallon long, with a sponge filter and a hang on the back with low water flow, water is anywhere from 63-67 degrees, fed earthworms. Let he is still suffering from gill loss. Everywhere I've done research says it's an ammonia related issue or the water is too warm yet ammonia is fine and water temperature is fine. I literally have no idea what is causing this if someone has any idea please let me know. [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Oct 2021 09:05 AM PDT My girl has had a super aggressive fungus on and off for over a month now. As soon as i think i got it under control it springs back up. Ive been tubbing her and changing the water every day, i tried salt baths once a day for a week, tea baths twice a day for 3 days, and soaking Indian almond leaves in her tub. Nothing has given me lasting results so far and im worried its only getting worse. Any recommendations are very appreciated. [link] [comments]

Looking for advice regarding freak accident with my axi. Posted: 12 Oct 2021 10:14 AM PDT Sooo, I removed my axi from its tank in order to remove water and move the entire tank to a new location in my home. I was moving through with my shop vac in order to vacuum where I would be placing the tank, and I knocked the poor baby off the filing cabinet where I had placed it, and it fell directly down into my milkshake!! I'm waiting to be approved for a group that advises about these kinds of things, but as I am new to having an axi I thought I'd come here and see if anyone has any sort of advise on what to do. I quickly snatched the baby out of the cup, and put it back into its tank, which I hadn't moved, hoping that just putting it back in the water still remaining in the tank would help to clear its gills. I know it's stressed. Gills are curved forwards. I mean, what wouldn't be stressed after an ordeal like that? My concern is that I have doomed it to death. Quite frankly, this my daughter's pet, and axolotols are her second favorite animal (she can't have a penguin)...so I can't let it die. What do you guys think? I'm not here for judgement passing. I'm here for genuine assistance until I get in with the axi group I mentioned. I'm already freaking out, crying, and my anxiety is at a level it's never been before. Thank you in advance. Posted: 12 Oct 2021 10:12 AM PDT Hi! I've had an axolotl in the past and I'm thinking of getting another one! However the only spare stand we have for a tank right now is a 56cm square (very sturdy) table. Would this be sufficient for a tank for one axolotl or should we get a longer table for a longer tank? I know longer is normally better, but just thought I would ask! Thanks! [link] [comments]

What are axolotls like? What is it like owning one? Posted: 12 Oct 2021 07:40 AM PDT I just bought a 75 gallon tank, I am debating whether to have freshwater fish or getting two axolotls. I have read plenty in regards to their needs, but I have yet to see much about what they are actually like. Can someone describe what they do throughout the day as you observe and interact with them? Any other anecdotes or info is much appreciated! These guys are amazing I want to know as much as I can :) [link] [comments]

Want to get my Axie a new friend, but not sure.... Please help. Posted: 12 Oct 2021 04:46 AM PDT So I have 1 male Axolotl called Angus, he is about 5 years old. My tank is around 130 liters so quite big. I have been thinking about getting a second Axie for ages but I am worried, as Angus has lived alone for 5 years I don't want them to fight each other, and Angus is pretty big about 26cm. Any advice on how to make adding a friend possible would be much appreciated... [link] [comments]
Our new axolotls haven't been eating over the last couple of days hours. Posted: 11 Oct 2021 08:36 PM PDT EDIT: Typo in title, meant to write days Hello, we got a pair of 4" axolotls (they look more like 5" now) and I'm worried about their eating habits and if they look healthy. I've included pictures. I fed them live bloodworms a few days ago, but they've been ignoring their food since. I'm yet to do our first water change but the test strip results seem alright. Hardness seems a bit low and theres a safe amount of nitrites at this point and I hope it'll do better after I do a water change. They've also been kinda lazy, and not swimming around as much as I thought they would. When they're not hiding in their cave, they just lounge on the sand. I also introduced a dozen ghost shrimp yesterday and I can't find a single one now, so perhaps they've all been eaten. Would appreciate some input on how you guys think they're doing. I read that the width of their heads should be as much as their bodies. I hope this is just a case of them not being hungry, and not a bad reaction to their new environment. https://i.imgur.com/5JlPyLh.jpg [link] [comments]
