Jarrariums - One of my dangerously multiplying jarrariums. Correct me if you think I'm wrong but I think there are daphnia, isopods and a few detritus worms so far. Like a happier sea monkeys!

Nothing I love more in the morning than sitting with a cup of coffee and staring at the little weird and wonderful creatures that appear in my jarrarium!

Jarrarium with aquarium water

Posted: 09 Jun 2021 12:11 PM PDT

Hello,

I am in the process of starting two 2.5G Jarrariums. I am planning on filling both with water.

I will not be adding livestock, however I will be adding the following aquatic plants:

Monte Carlo Dwarf Sword Plant Pearl Grass

I will be using already established water from my cycled aquarium.

I was wondering if the soil is necessary or if I could use premium aquarium sand only? The sand will not be from my aquarium.

Is it recommended to seal/remove the lid or alternate between covered and open? I would like to use a natural light source.

Thank you for your help.

forgive me if i sound dumb i'm very new to this but do they just spring up from the dirt and algae and stuff? they all have to already be in the water right? if i was just say scooping up some river water in the woods how would i make sure i get lots of little bugs and stuff, i feel like there wouldn't be as many water bugs per volume that i would want in my ecosystem, u feel me?

My first attempt at a jarrarium! There's tiny creatures and some small snails. Do you have any tips on how to keep it alive? (There's a lid on the jar) things I should add or remove?
