Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:21 AM PDT Is there a good reference list out there of plants that work well for doing this? Going to get started soon, now that I know the basics. Just don't want everything to end up really over crowded. [link] [comments]

Ideas for small cricket keeper? Posted: 21 Jun 2021 12:15 AM PDT Not quite a jar I guess, but it's not much bigger than one. We have been setting up a bioactive enclosure for a Chinese mantis and we wound up getting an extra cricket keeper and we are going to have some leftover moss after we add what we want to the tank. We've been trying to think of something fun to do with the cricket keeper. We were thinking something with the moss and we love snails, so that was something we wanted to get feedback on. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated. :) [link] [comments]

Advice for establishing a new jar Posted: 20 Jun 2021 04:49 PM PDT So a few hours ago, I set up my newest jarrarium in a 2 gallon jar. It's mostly sand, plants, and lakewater from a large lake with a bit of mud from a nearby swamp. The last time I tried to make a setup in this jar, the water never seemed to clear and a nasty bacterial bloom finished it off in the following weeks. I'm a bit torn here between making use of my new aquarium bubbler to keep the water oxygenated and help all my critters survive vs. letting the sediment in the jar settle in order to allow the sun and my LED light actually reach the plants. On account of only being a few hours old, the water is still very cloudy right now and I'm worried that the bubbler is going to keep the sediment stirred up indefinitely. Would it be better to shut off the bubbler for a day or two and let all the murk settle, or is it more important to keep the water oxygenated at this stage? [link] [comments] |
