My new guys didn't like my filter flow and kept getting stuck, so I fashioned a secondary flow break out of a kitchen cup. Not bad for working as I go on the idea for it.

PLEASE help why are my sons so filthy

Posted: 31 May 2021 10:59 PM PDT

I have a problem and I don't know if it's something I need to worry about or not. So I have two oranda goldfish in a 29 gallon that was a top fin starter kit, so it has the filter that came with it and the cartridges I believe are PF-L filters. I will rinse these things off, clean out the whole filter box and intake filter, replace the cartridge (rinsed off first) and install the filter again and within a week, it is LITERALLY encrusted so fully in green stuff. It's a combination of food waste, their poop (they poop SO much), and algae and whatever else that creates waste in the tank. Im telling y'all, I've had these babies for two months maybe and I've gone through two boxes of filters. I can't find anything online saying whether or not this is a common occurrence. I of course have tried a different filter, but my tank did not do so well with it and I worried it wasn't creating enough of a stream, oxygen etc. it's just so much and so gross that I have to wear gloves every time I touch the filter.

I do 25 percent water changes every week and also every week I dose the tank with algae fix, as my tank is near a window and I've had major problems with algae before. My fish for the most part eat all of their food whenever fed, with the exception of just a couple crumbs they will go back to later when they do their nightly gravel hoovering. I know goldfish, especially fancy goldfish, are filthy but oh my goodness this is extreme.

I need help! I saw a red dot on my fish Crowley's fin a couple days ago, I left for a camping trip and when I got back it had spread. Do any of you know what this could be or can give me advice on what to do? I have provided some photos, the first one is before, the second is after.

Bubbles on the side of my goldfish

Posted: 31 May 2021 09:21 AM PDT

Yesterday some masses appeared on my pearlscale Mandu. It seems like the masses are sacks filled with fluid. He's eating fine, swims normally but is less active than before, and isn't as high spirited. It appears that the sacks are coming out of the middle of his scales. My phone broke and Ill be lucky to get a new one late this week or early next week, so I can't get a photo of it. The bubbles are on his right side only. Anyone know what this could be, or how to treat? I'm salting the tank and giving epson salt baths as of now. I'm currently trying to find a vet that takes fish.

Tank is a 55 gallon, its been running for over a year, no new fish have been introduced, Ammonia is 0, Nitrites 0, and PH is 8 (has always been 8)
