Tank help wanted- Safe Hide material

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 10:28 AM PDT

I am a beginner and looking into setting up my tank well in advance of any axolotls to allow cycling.

I am also a 3D printing Fan and was holding to 3D print some smooth hides. I know that there are several PLA and ABS which are aquarium safe for fish.

Does anyone have any experience of trying this with their axolotls? Are there and do's and don'ts in terms of material or shape required outside of being non sharp?

[[Looking for axolotl pictures]]

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 01:11 PM PDT

Hey there, I'm Ace. I'm making an collection of axolotl pictures (collection so far can be found on https://github.com/AceKiron/public_data/blob/main/axolotl_pictures.txt.)

As of writing this I only have 96 pictures, but I want way more. I'm collecting them for my Discord bot, which is able to share those pictures.

Please share axolotl pictures I can add to my collection, but only if you own the picture(s). I don't want to share axolotl pictures of axolotl owners who don't approve having their pictures being shared.

Is my ammonia ok?

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 01:04 PM PDT

Hello! I am quite new to this so don't be afraid to correct anything I am saying.

I know that ammonia should be as close to zero as possible. My question is how close exactly? No matter what I do, It seems to be staying right around 0.25ppm on a good day and 0.5ppm on a bad day.

I have tried to lower it by cleaning waste, water changes, etc, but the issue is my house water runs at about 0.25ppm to begin with so water changes can only get me so low.

Are these levels tolerable? And if not what are some steps that I could take to reduce it further? All other water parameters are safely in range.

Does anyone have any that don't have a limb

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 12:25 PM PDT

I got my male axolotl when he was a wee baby. He only had three arms when I got him, and he still only has three arms now. Does anybody else have any that didn't have a limb grow back?

Decorations and hiding spots.

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 11:47 AM PDT

I am setting up and Axolotl tank but I don't have any decor or hiding spots yet to put in the tank. It's a 20 gallon. What are some good decor or hiding spots on amazon that Axolotl would enjoy and not get hurt on.

Have a video of my (male) lotls trying to breed. Look at those little legs go!

If my axolotls bred, how far back would I need to know their lineage? How do I make sure they’re not inbreeding?

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 12:53 AM PDT

Up until last month I've never owned an axolotl before, I recently got two axolotls from different breeders of the same size and am keeping them in the same tank, since it's too early to tell gender I plan on reaching out to the breeders tomorrow and seeing if they could tell me their genetics incase I find eggs in the future so I know if I have to cull them or if itd be okay to raise/sell them. The thing is I've ever had to trace an axolotls lineage before, so I was wondering if any experienced breeders knew how much information I'd need to make sure they're not related or if there's anything else about their genetics and breeding I should know.

If they turn out to be different genders I plan to separate them since I know they can overbreed, but for now at 4 inches they seem to enjoy each other's company
