Posted: 15 Jun 2021 07:51 PM PDT I had no idea about the care of these animals, I bought them to help keep my beta tank clean (per LFS suggestion) but within the past 24 hours they look not good! I have two mystery snails and a bunch of... some sort of smaller pink or tan snails (they were hitchhikers with plants) however the small snails appear fine. Gave them a few beta pellets and one mystery snail (I've named 'Apple') responded a bit but not so much the partner. I also did a 15-20% water change. I feel terrible I let them down! I just found this sub... any mystery snail tips? I really like them and I never want to do one wrong again :( EDIT: beta has been gone for a year now, snails just recently became ill. It has been a snail tank only since that time [link] [comments]

Any tips on how to keep a nerite snail out of the filter/pump compartment. Posted: 15 Jun 2021 01:40 PM PDT I have a fluval flex 9 gallon and I just acquired 2 nerite snails on Saturday. They are both pretty good sized but today I found my red racer in the pump/heater compartment. He'd gone over the back wall. I'm afraid he will do it again and get stuck or burnt. Any tips on how to close the gap between the back wall and the lid? [link] [comments]

Real requirements for these aquatic snails? Posted: 15 Jun 2021 06:09 AM PDT I visited an aquarium (the pet store kind) while looking for some tropical fish feed for my garden snails (can't get mealworms anywhere near me) and while chatting I bought up wanting to keep some water snails, but never researching much about it. The owner told me he has several species (melanoides tuberculata, planorbis corneus, physa sp) that are so prosperous in his store aquariums that he might as well just give them for me for free if I want to keep them. He claims all I would really need to keep them is a decent-size fishtank with a cover to keep them from climbing out, and that they don't really even need a filter (which sounds kinda suspiscious). He seems pretty honest and he seems to know a lot about snails, land and aquatic ones, but I'd rather have some second opinions as to what I would REALLY require to keep these particular snails healthy. Do they really need just water, food and good temperature or are there more things I should take care off. Do they need a filter or not? Any advice would be great. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
