Fast and mysterious deaths: whodunnit Posted: 23 Jun 2021 11:06 AM PDT I recently acquired six rabbit snails, mostly orange. I did a slow ish introduction; mixed their travel water with tank water over about a half hour, then placed the snails in. They came in a little weird--a lot of them were curled up, scrunching up their foot around their snout but still out of their shells, and they were all active and moving. I left them alone for a couple days and then started adding algae chunks, and in the meantime one of them has laid an egg which has hatched and started exploring. But, it's been six days and two are dead. One I noticed today, and one died yesterday or sooner. It couldn't have been more than three days, because I've seen them all moving earlier this week. The shells are completely empty, it looks like. Not bottled up behind the operculum, just empty. There's nothing else in the tank except the snails, and I wouldn't think they'd cannibalize the bodies so quickly. Can snail bodies decompose in a couple days? Is it reasonable that the living would eat the freshly dead and be able to pull it out of it's shell? Is there anything I can do to keep the rest of them alive? Thank you! [link] [comments]

Help for Mystery Snail that's acting weird! Posted: 23 Jun 2021 04:58 AM PDT A few days ago i found my mystery snail completely retracted into its shell(for about 2 days) so i picked it up and slowly acclimated it to an isolation tank just so i could better care for it. Upon investigation i found its trapdoor to be slightly damaged. Ok, this snail was a gentle giant-almost as big as a teenage pinky-but it would quickly retract if it felt even the slightest disturbance near it. However, it didn't even retract when i picked it up, almost as if it couldn't or something?? I fed it some food as usual, but when it didnt want to eat at all, i placed it on top or near the food. Instead of munching, it kept crawling back the the sides of the enclosure. I know this is long but would appreciate if someone could help me! [link] [comments]
