New Koi Owner (came with the house)

I was in the process of dismantling an existing koi pond and discovered a small koi fish (a few inches long). The pond is in a weird area, on a slope, and is nearly drained now. I'm relandscaping and would consider building a small pond as part of that process. (The previous owners even left behind a nice water filter.)

In the meantime, I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to keep this fish alive (starting it out in a kiddie pool for the time being). It's currently in a bucket, in the old (nasty) pond water, while I treat the new water.

I have tests on the way for chlorine, ammonia, nitrate, hardness, kH, pH. I also have a pump with airstones in the pool, plus a few aquatic plants floating on top.

To transition the fish to the new water, I read that I should keep the koi fish in a bag with its old water for 10-20min, floating in the new water and then gradually add the new water to the bag to acclimate it, before transferring the fish to the new water.

Is there anything I'm overlooking? Anything that needs to be done before moving this fish to its new home?

My largest koi has been fairly inactive and his tail is up out of the water. It’s also red. The fish spawned 2 nights ago so initially I thought it was an injury but it is persistent. Any clues as to what’s wrong?
