Buy 30 gal set, or build set up by myself?

Posted: 04 Apr 2021 11:38 PM PDT

I have had freshwater tanks for years and finally am in the research phase for my first saltwater tank.

I'd like a pair of clownfish with a bubble anemone, and possibly a goby, shrimp or hermit crab, nothing too over crowded.

My LFS builds these 30 gallon cube sets complete with skimmer, light, pump, rock, sand and salt for $300. The built in filter area takes away about 20% of the tank space.

So my question is:

Is it better to just buy the empty cube and add a canister filter so I don't lose the space from the filter area?

With this filter taking up so much space how long can I keep the clowns in there before they outgrow it?

The clownfish this shop has are around 3cm long.

Planning on moving a nano saltwater tank over the weekend. Two Green Star Polyps and one frag of Nuclear Green Zoa still stands with fragility.

(14-16 gallon nano tank) Planning to place my corals and single Peppermint Shrimp into plastic bags with their home tank water. The rest of the tank water will go into Home Depot buckets. Need tips and advice on how to make this first saltwater tank move possible. Thank you all so much. Silly question, but if I buy new sand do I need to cycle it?

Rotifers or copepods? Showed up once I added my macro algae so assumed copepods but their body shape looks like rotifers.
