Planted Aquarium - My very first tank! Nothing special yet but a lot of your tanks are inspiring. Right now I have a few plants and some cherry shrimp. All suggestions or tips welcome!

Tip: Sell your excess plant trims to your local fish store

Posted: 13 Apr 2021 01:46 PM PDT

Most stores will be happy to give you store credit, maybe even cash, for your extra plants. Buy some plants weights online(about 40 cents a piece) so your trims are ready for them to sell when you bring them in, make it easy for them to say yes. I get 2 bucks a plant for trims that I would otherwise throw onto the compost heap. Try bringing in a dozen or so during non busy hours(not weekends) and showing them what you have, IMO it works better than asking beforehand because they don't want to get burned saying yes and you bringing crap looking trims. The size my portions is larger that most commercial plants and they tell my plants sellout quickly. Your LFS makes some money and local fishkeepers get plants that are already adapted to your local tap water. I make about $26 a week, pays for a lot of frozen fish food!
