If you're ever taking out floaters check for shrimplets hidden in the roots!

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:47 PM PST

I Learned this today when I was clearing out my excess floaters. I was packing them into a container and later going experiment with making food out of them.... That's when I looked into the tank and saw the sheer number of shrimplets that I could easily see amongst the remaining floaters roots. Thus, my dread filled in that I had crushed and removed many. I quickly siphoned some tank water into a 5 gallon bucket and dumped the floaters I'd taken out; and sure enough I instantly see 3 shrimplets... Unfortunately I'm at work till 10 so now I'll have to sort through it all later tonight. Check them roots people!

Any tips for changing to RO water?

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:36 PM PST

So for about 8 months now I've been running a neocaridina tank off my tap water after several adjustments. My tap is about 8.0 ph and about 30 gh (and from memory I think 20 kh?) which I would adjust with a water softening pillow and some ph down. This did work for a while but I've gotten more tanks over time and now it's sort of become strenuous to keep up with the adjustments so I'm switching to RO water.

So my question is, does anyone have any tips? I know I definitely shouldn't do a 100% change but is there any good rate at water conversion I could do so I don't risk the shrimp with a TDS or GH change? Is there anything you guys think I should know before starting RO water? (I know you need to re-mineralize, I got SaltyShrimp mineral for them) but otherwise is there anything important?

Can I get help with a new pumpkin female?

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 11:05 PM PST

I bought a female pumpkin Neo from my LFS this Sunday and spend a good 5hrs drip acclimating her. I put her into my cycled but empty 5 gallon tank after testing the parameters. The next day, I added my 7 Sunkist boys (the reason I bought a female). The boys are doing great, but the female has started to roll to her side. She was already having troubles since it appears she's missing a lot of legs (I don't think she has any feeding legs at all), but now she's rolling and I don't know if she's even going to make it through the night. I don't know what to do or what I did wrong. Help please, thank you so much.
