spoiler: it was sunlight

i've got a twenty gallon tank i use for breeding so i don't need it looking great but i also don't want the plants in there getting over-run with algae. it's mostly guppy grass in the tank and that stuff is perfect for accumulating algae and crud. a few weeks ago, i think i caught the tipping point where the algae needed dealing with or it would take over. i manually removed as much as i could and then it was water changes and seachem excel to the rescue. did a pretty good job but some algae still came back. this tank is near a window but i keep the blinds shut all the time and have the back of the tank blacked out. i'm convinced the culprit for all of this was just a small sliver of light getting past these obstacles. i've blacked out all three sides of the tank now and continued with water changes and excel. it looks soooooo much better!

First ever attempt at a planted tank after realising a smaller tank with ornaments wasn't going to cut it for the fish! It's a work in progress.
