Once you close the jar, do you continue opening and managing the ecosystem, or just let nature do it's thing and see what happens?

I've been into closed ecosystems and have recently started my first jar terrarium project. I'm not sure how much managing is typical, especially since I have isopods, a few millipedes, a snail, and slug. If my slimey friends are too destructive, I'll make 'em their own new homes. Otherwise how much do you guys "take care of" your critters and such? Survival of the fittest, or help em out consistently?
