Thanks to someone super awesome, I now have a Python No Spill for water changes so no longer have to strain my carpal tunnel syndrome to change Glory and Cherry's hospital tank water! I can keep them without worry! Here they are doing their post-water-change zoomies! :D

Can goldfish normally grow new eyes? This Moor had 1 eye when I bought him now there’s a small new eye appearing. I cant get a clear picture but it moves and looks like it has a misshapen pupil and iris

This is Bink. My girlfriend won him at a carnival almost a decade ago. After we cleaned his tank last night, we noticed his tail looks a bit torn at the top. Did some research but hoping to get input from you guys... Is this common? Should we do something about it?

Redness around ranchu lips.

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 11:45 PM PST

I got a new ranchu in my 10 gallon/40 litter aquarium around 2 weeks ago. Today, I noticed that it has redness around its lips. I'm planning on getting the water tested tomorrow but any advice on what it could be?

Is feeding Shubunkins a small amount 5x a day good/bad?

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 05:09 PM PST

I've read the wiki, and a dozen articles. Most focus on the "two minute" rule... but I'm wondering if it's ok to feed much smaller amounts more frequently?

30 gal, 70F, 2 - 2" Comets, 3 - 3" Shubunkins. All will eventually move to an outdoor pond.

I use an automatic feeder and have been feeding a mix of sinking 2mm pellets (Omega) and flakes 5x per day. However, it's an amount that they eat (everyone) in more like 30 seconds, maybe 60 seconds if the sinking pellets actually reach the gravel. Anyway, everyone is doing great, but I am wondering if I'm doing something wrong feeding them this way.

When I feed them less frequently, 3x a day but same amount, they ravaged my plants hence upping it to 5x a day. Should I dial back the frequency and up the volume for some reason?

NOTE: I also hand feed peas, and freeze dried shrimp and blood worms once or twice a week to augment.

how long do goldfish chase female during breeding?

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 04:14 PM PST

They were pretty aggressive with chasing the female goldfish around so I had to separate them. Curious to know when to reintroduce. I noticed she laid eggs already.

My daughter’s goldfish exploded...literally. Anyone ever heard of this?

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 10:33 AM PST

My daughter had two goldfish. The abdomen on one swelled up quite a bit last year. I was worried it was dropsy, but the scales were not sticking out. Instead the fish's butt was floating near the surface. I isolated the fish in a new tank and the next day it was fine, and there was a massive fish poop in the tank. At this point I assumed the fish was constipated and had gas in its belly. Is this possible? We started feeding some peas and lettuce to the fish, and I bought some aquatic plants for the tank. It had been swelling up a few more times in the past few weeks but would be fine the next day.

Yesterday I went to feed the fish and the one literally had an exploded abdomen. Any idea on what may have happened? Stomach, swim bladder? I assume an infection, but you'd be the experts.

Pearlscale goldfish won't leave the bottom of the tank

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 12:24 PM PST

I recently bought a Pearlscale from a LFS and when I bought it, the fish was constantly hanging in the tank vertically, looking down at the ground. I bought it along with a few others in hopes that I can nurse it as I feel I have a better chance than it being neglected in the shop. Since it came home with me it and I've given it some peas it stopped hanging vertically. She's still eating but hangs around at the bottom of the tank a lot and will move around for a short time then stop motionless in one spot (still resting on the ground). Is this swim bladder or something else? As I said she is still eating and otherwise looks healthy. The other fish are very active and I'm not sure if it's just the fish personality or not.
