Thoughts?

Got this little guy. His heater isn’t heating the tank to above 72. Thought it needed to be in the 74ish range at least- any heater recommendations?

Is there anything I can do for him? I work at a pet store and the betta fish supplier sent a cup with two male bettas in it and this one ended up getting shredded by the other. A coworker wants to treat with bettafix but I know that might just make him worse so I wanted to treat at home if possible.

Update: working on my Betta situation.

Posted: 30 Mar 2021 04:56 PM PDT

I posted yesterday about being talked into getting a Betta for my kids, by a PetSmart employee who told me they're the "most low maintenance fish". I got some great info from folks here. I was using a one gallon tank and had nothing else.

I now have a 5 gallon tank, a heater, a thermo, a silk plant, a leaf hammock, and a place for him to hide. I'm still in way over my head with this, but I feel like I've learned a ton. I'm really starting to like this guy a lot and I hope he's relatively happy. I'm kind of a nervous wreck and find myself watching him constantly because I know the setup isn't perfect, but he was in a cup of cold water before, so I imagine he's probably feeling alright.

And to think, yesterday I went into that store expecting to to buy a $5 bowl and a goldfish.

One thing I'm still wondering about is what counts as normal movement and behavior for them? He is pretty active, but he mostly stays near the top of the tank and is also near the heater a lot. He goes into his submarine sometimes. He's still spitting out his food, so I'm getting a different kind.

Thought I'd share my brand new girl showing a very clear example of stress stripes/lines! More in comments :)
