Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:11 AM PST So I recently bought a couple of axoltls online, I'm not having them shipped though until I know they have the perfect home. I have done a lot of research on how to set up their tanks but I thought it would also be good to get some advice from other people who care for axolotls. What do you guys recommend doing? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:19 AM PST Hey, my names Toff and I'm going to be looking in to owning an axolotl sometime in the future. First of all I would like to mention that I've been an aquarium hobbiest for many years so I'm aware about cycling and tank perimeters, but I've always wanted an axy so I'm going to take the plunge and get one when I'm all set up. I've purchased a 30 gallon tank in preparation, yet to be set up as I need to do some research on their habitat. But I thought, what better place to ask for advice than from the Reddit axolotl pros? I will be conducting my own research prior to getting one to ensure I will be providing it with the best home it can thrive in. But any pointers directly from you guys would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Toff [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Mar 2021 04:46 AM PST Hey guys in need of some help. Got a fairly young axolotl last week (around 8cm) and the little guy is refusing to eat. When i purchased him i was told they were eating bloodworms so i thought that'd be the best option!? Since i've introduced him into the tank he hasn't eaten anything. I've thawed the blood worms and cut the cubes into quarters so it's a manageable size but still no bite. The water conditions are perfect, ph on the dot, no chlorine, no ammonia, no nitrite and some nitrate. I'm lost as to why he won't eat. The only mentionable thing is that for some reason (i noticed when i put him in my tank) he didn't have any feet only small stumps for each leg. As there were multiple axolotl in the tank when i purchased him i didn't notice but could this be stressing him out?? They're nearly grown back now but i'm looking for suggestions. He hasn't shown any signs of stress, moves a bit here and there but no issues with his exterior. Would live earthworms work as a different food source? Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:38 PM PST Hi guys! My axolotl, Sputnik, who I have had since November has decided that he doesn't want to eat his earthworms. He will chew on them but ultimately spits the worms out. He's about 7-8 inches now, so I cut the worms into small bits for him. Checked all the parameters, temp: 63, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5, PH 7.6. Any ideas what's going on with him/her? It's been about 2-3 days since he last ate—usually eats about half a giant nightcrawler daily. He has also been extremely active both day and night...maybe he's just not into eating right now? Any thoughts would be great. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:37 PM PST I just noticed this recently, both my leucistic axolotl's abdomen kind of moves inward at one or two places periodically, either on one or both sides. I don't notice my wild doing this at all. Both the lucys are the same age though one is much much smaller due to a neglectful previous owner. I don't notice anything else out of the ordinary and they don't seem to be otherwise distressed. I think I should mention, the cycle crashed so they're in slightly different conditions until I can get it re-established. I noticed while I had them tubbed. [link] [comments]
