I finished cycling my tank when I saw nitrites turn into nitrates. I then bought my axolotl online. When I did a water change to lower nitrate, I noticed that the days after my ammonia and nitrite stopped cycling and stayed at about 2ppm. I can't cancel the order on the axolotl so I don't know what to do. Did I kill my cycle? Thank You!

how can you tell if an axolotl is a boy or a girl?

so i just got my axolotl today and i cant tell if theyre a boy or girl. i wasnt told by the person who gave me them and i couldnt find anything online so i thought reddit could help!! sorry if this is a dumb question im just really confused and very very new to owning an axolotl!!

hi I'm planning to get an axolotl in the next few months and I wanted to know if anybody could recommend good caves that are not too rough for the axolotl. price range around $10-$20. I would appreciate any examples or links to products on Amazon!

filter recommendations for a 40 gal?

our boys just got moved from a 20 gal to a 40 in anticipation of adopting another one, and we're struggling a bit with filters. we got an aqueon power filter but it makes some noise and generates a bit more flow than i'd like.

we initially used a sponge filter, but it eventually just didn't do enough for the new tank.

anyone have recommendations?

Could Axolotls survive in the wild anywhere else in the world?

It seems as though the extinction of Axolotls in the wild in inevitable, unless something is done about the pollution and invasive species in Lake Xochimilco. Then I thought, there has to be another place on the planet where they could survive in the wild, right? Some lake, somewhere, that isn't having sewage dumped into it? I tried researching it with little results. Has anybody dug into this and found any information?

EDIT: My question is, is it possible to keep them from going extinct in the wild?

Terrain Question!

Is it possible to use large pieces of quartz for the bottom of the tank? I know the pieces have to be bigger than their head, but does rough vs smooth make a difference? Will a rough water safe crystal harm them?
