Mr Chunk had eggs like a month ago. 43 of them made it and I had been feeding them twice daily, doing daily water changes, all of that. They were fine. I knew they were eating because I can literally see the food inside them when they do. I did everything the same. They were fine last night. I wake up this morning and all of them except for 4 had died. I don't know what went wrong. I am really confused.

Hello everyone, new axolotl owner here. Been having a tough time caring for my axolotl. I received him not knowing much, it was a last minute offer and was given little to no instructions on how to care for him. Previous owner didn't know about cycling the tank so my tank was emptied before I received him in his little tub. He's a fun little guy, and I already love him to death (His name is Rango). Thanks to the people in this community he is still alive, I wouldn't have the knowledge on how to act and he most likely would have been lost by now.

I had to do and emergency full tank change yesterday (nitrate was at 3-4 ppm), and did a half change since it went up to about 0.5-1 overnight. I

I've purchase (almost) everything I need, I have my API master test kit, siphon, baster, prime, and water clearer, as well as a beautiful, but too small 10gallon tank.

So my current situation is his tank is not fully cycled, as I received it from the previous owner with no water left over. I have bacteria balls and things but I don't know how well things are gonna go if I don't get more help. Basically what I need is advice and people who will tell me what to do. I ask a lot of questions, and I'm willing to do basically anything to care for Rango.

Can axolotls have heart attacks?? (Please help��⚠️)

My axolotl, Esky was very big a couple of days ago.. I tried surfing the internet to find what's wrong, but I'm still not sure what's going on.. I read that lower temratures could slow down infections and stuff, so i put her in the fridge.. Currently her body is back to normal, but her head still looks like a balloon😐.

She also has has red spots on her body (She's had this since I got her).

The reason why I'm asking if they can have heart attacks is because earlier, my little sister was slamming the fridge door open and close really hard, causing everything in the fridge to move around.. When I went to check to see if she was ok, she wasn't moving at all ☹ and there where eggs smashed everywhere, including some that had dripped through the holes in the container (I have changed the water since) I tried gently poking her to see if she would move and she still hasn't 😥 I've taken her out of the fridge to see if she will move around if the water warms up a little but I'm really scared that she's dead..

Is it possible that the fridge door slamming gave her a heart attack?? If anybody knows what's wrong, or has any idea of what's happening please let me know🙏

Frozen vs. freeze dried?

I'm looking at feeding options and want to get some blackworms for my axie. They're not big enough for nightcrawlers yet. Is freeze dried or frozen better? I've seen people say freeze dried loses very little nutritional value, while others say it loses almost all. Which one is better? Edit: I went to compare prices for frozen vs. freeze dried but I can't find evidence that frozen blackworms even exist?

Secure lid to stop cats?

I've moved into a new flat and my flatmate has a pet cat. My axolotl is in my room with the door closed so the cat can't get in, but I want to get a secure lid just in case.

Does anyone have suggestions for a strong cat proof lid? The tank's an odd shape so something that could be cut to size would be best. I'm in the UK if that helps.

I've had my tank for a week or so now. It's got a brand new filter in it, along with sand, and a few sword plants.

I dosed it with fish food to up the ammonia but I was having problems getting this up higher than 0.25-0.50.

Today I tested for ammonia, nitrites and nitrate. The ammonia was at 0.25, nitrites were at 0, and nitrates were at 5.0.

I know there's no issues in how I'm doing the tests as I've been doing them for quite a while on my other tanks now, so I'm wondering if somehow the tank actually is pretty much cycled already?

It's had a decoration in it that was previously in a cycled tank, and I add a little bit of cycled tank water into it whenever I do changes on my other tanks
