Posted: 17 Mar 2021 06:53 PM PDT My fiancee fell in love with a koi from them. Its a matsuba butterfly with cool colors. But I can't seem to fall in love with many others from them. I just want to make sure that 1) quality is there 2) color is at least close to the pics 3) they're labeling things correctly. I mean, I'm honest when I say I don't know names. And my pond is good for 4 koi at full growth until I dig out another section. So these 4 have to be perfect (14x4 ft, 2 ft deep, with one end 4 ft wide circle) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Mar 2021 11:02 AM PDT Moved to house with koi pond, and though I managed to keep them alive this winter, keeping koi isn't my thing. Can you give me ideas where I could donate? [link] [comments] |
Anyone in central nj looking for free fish Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:14 PM PDT I have 2 fairly large koi plus some large goldfish and some babies in my backyard pond. I am looking to give them all away for free to a very good home if you come and get them soon. I am having major construction done on my home and I will not have power available until the summer, ah these guys probably will not make it. [link] [comments] |
Pond overpopulation - Humane solution? Posted: 17 Mar 2021 02:37 PM PDT The house I bought a few years ago had a pond with five or six koi in it. I knew nothing about koi, but thought, "How hard could it be?" The previous owner told me they bought two fish, a black and a white one. They were told they were both female. A few months later, tiny orange fish started appearing. Surprise! The original fish were not both females. Based on reading I did at the time, the pond was big enough for five or six fish, but not much more. The problem: Fast forward two years to today, I still have the two original fish. Both are over a foot. The original 3 or 4 orange ones are all 6-8 inches today. The real problem is now there are 25-35 fish between 1-4 inches in there. They're difficult to count, but that's my best guess. Keep in mind, this is only a 350-500 gallon pond. The pond is very crowded. I can't seem to keep the water clear. They're basically just swimming in blind circles through their own waste. Life must be miserable in there, but I don't know what to do. I have called the two local chain pet stores. They won't take them. I know I can't release them into any local waterways. There was a koi rescue group in my area but I think they may be defunct. Their website hasn't been updated in ages and they haven't replied to multiple calls/emails for nearly a year. So what do I do? My neighbor suggested, "Just scoop out all the little ones and toss them over the fence into the woods." I thought that sounded cruel when he said it, but I have to admit I'm starting to consider it. Help! How do I get rid of these fish? [link] [comments] |
