I finally got my first tank!

Posted: 03 Nov 2020 06:40 PM PST

After immensely enjoying Foo the Flowerhorn (among others) on YouTube for years, I finally bought my first tank - a rimless 5 gallon. I plan on using no filter (much like my inspiration) and I have been doing my research but I am still a little nervous.

I've seen some contradictory information in my search for knowledge. Just to name a few questions ... What substrate is best? Is using hard water okay? How do I mitigate algae blooms? The list goes on...

What's the most important piece of advice you can share with a newcomer? Any outside resources recommendations are greatly appreciated.

My gourami was attacking my tetras, so I panic bought a bunch of plants thinking it would help. Here’s what my tank looks like now.

Is this too much duckweed for the Dwarf Hair Grass? I am trying to establish a carpet and things seem to be going well, I just don’t want to ruin the progress so far. Ignore the wood in the process of being waterlogged lol.
