My 9 year old fancy

Had this guy for a few months now, still doesn’t have a name (don’t mind the ‘bare’ tank, saving up money for some plants)

I could watch them swim around all day !

Wakanda chilling in the sun while Annie (Left) and Candy (Right) photobomb him. I got this beauty a couple days after Chadwicks passing and it just seemed right to name him Wakanda

General question

What's something you wish you knew before getting a goldfish? I'm setting up a 20gal long for a black moor and want to have all my bases covered. Thanks for anything you can offer!

How do goldfish do with planted tanks?

Posted: 03 Nov 2020 04:10 PM PST

I love seeing everyone's goldies on this sub and think I would like to get a big tank to get a few. However, I love super planted tanks. Do goldfish really eat all the plants or uproot them? How difficult is it to maintain plants with them?

Also, I currently keep understocked tanks with smaller fish. Will a goldfish tank need more frequent water changes/cleaning then other types of fish tanks?

DAE use Seachem Excel in their planted goldie tank? Do they mind?

Posted: 03 Nov 2020 09:45 AM PST

I have been dosing with Excel to deal with algae. I gradually increased the dose to a max of what's recommended for 1/2 the volume of the tank. I'm not planning on going higher as the tank is not heavily planted and I don't want to stress the fish.

It's been about 10 days now. I noticed my Oranda is taking long naps. Her tank mate is OK and acting normal. When she is not napping, she is acting normal, foraging and eating well. No visual issues or symptoms, water parameters (ammonia (0), nitrate (0), nitrite (<30ppm) & pH (7() are all perfect.

Could it be the Excel making her uncomfortable?

Goldfish diseases

Hello! I had a 40gal tank with 6 (8 later on) goldfish, a catfish and 4 snails. Everything was going great, I started using real plants and they were gonna get an upgrade of 75gal when I saved enough money for it. But then we got two more fish added in, they had ich. I didn't catch the first signs and it killed everything in the tank within a week. I had a beta also around that time too but I moved him into the 30 gal after I bleached the whole tank a couple times to make sure it was safe. How much of a deep clean would I have to do to make sure nothing else gets it because I do want to start getting gold fish again but I don't want an entire tank destroyed.

Edit 1: This was 4 years ago and a lot of it was beginners mistakes along with me being 15 without a job so it was hard to get a bigger tank size when the goldfish got bigger.

Can stunted goldfish have a good life?

Posted: 03 Nov 2020 08:48 AM PST

So i have 3 goldfish. a pearlscale and 2 fantails. I bought them all of them at the same size and only 2 have grown the pearlscale and a fantail. Its weird because i do feed them equally so one doesnt get less. I do my water changes but only 2 have increased in size. I dont any reasons why my little fantail doesnt grow any reasons?
