Inside the fancy goldfish pond’s new greenhouse. It keeps the air between 10 and 20 degrees warmer in winter, so my fancies can stay outside year round.

Tips and tricks

Posted: 14 Nov 2020 10:02 PM PST

I work at a pet store and we have feeder goldfish and the fancy types too. While I can't refuse feeder sales, I can refuse fancy sales if theyre at risk for abuse. I know basic care for them, water temps, tank sizing, but I figured I'd see if anyone has any tips or tricks that I could pass along to potential keepers, (tank mates, plants etc) let me know! Goldfish get it the worse at my store and I really want to make sure I do right by them

Thinking about getting a snail pal. Thoughts?

Thinking about getting a snail to go with my two goldies. Not sure what type (if any) is suitable to home with goldfish. I'm also afraid of ending up with a thousand snails. Thoughts?

Need advice for quarantine tank

Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:49 AM PST

I'm setting up a hospital-quarantine tank to treat my blue oranda. All I have is a back-up 10-gallon. Would this be okay for a 5" fish for the 5-10 days neccessary to treat him? I'll be doing daily water changes during the treatment. Strapped for cash due to some recent emergencies but I'll do what I need to save my boy.

Looking for next steps for our pal Pumpkin

Looking for next steps for our pal Pumpkin

Looking for guidance on what do with our well loved friend "Pumpkin". Our kids now call him "Sideways". He's been a sideways swimmer for a month+ now. We've been feeding him peas, adding API aquarium salt and stress coat but we haven't been able to correct his swimming position. We recently moved so I think our conditions are off and I'm going to correct those but I'm trying to confirm if he has an ammonia burn or what the black might be on his scales. He had a recent injury where he was rubbing up against the hang on the back filter, the black scales are the most recent state of that injury.

Current water conditions prior to today's 25% change: PH 6.4-6.6, Temp 78F, Ammonia 2.0ppm, Nitrite/Nitrite 0ppm.

Should we look to euthanize him as his swimming position is likely permanent at this point or continue to let him persevere with improved water conditions?

His other two tank mates, also fancy's are doing well.
