Floating Axolotl

Posted: 11 Nov 2020 09:44 AM PST

Requesting help regarding my axolotl, who has begun swimming on his back and floating, potentially from constipation or impaction. I heard fridging for 24 hours could work but also read that fridging was an outdated method of treatment. What should I do?

help! axolotl slime shedding worse after black tea bath

Posted: 11 Nov 2020 08:24 AM PST

my axolotl's slime has been shedding and it looked like he had a bit of fungus on his gills. it happened seemingly over night. every time i feed him or he bumped into something, slime would fall off his skin.

all i could think to give him was a tea bath. his water is 66 degrees celsius, the ammonia is 0 nitrite 0 and nitrate 20ppm. the tea bath i gave him lasted 10 minutes and was pure black tea. the temperature of the tea bath was 2 degrees higher than the temperature of his tank. his tank is 40 gallons and his water is clean. i don't know what else to do. this morning, his slime was shedding a LOT more. i don't know what else to do. he's eating and active and doesn't seem to be in any pain. should i dose methylene blue? or keep going with the tea baths? sorry if this is messy i am writing it on a whim .. thanks

Is there a way to find a cheaper (not talking dirt cheap) tank/aquarium that's still suitable and good quality or should I just go all out and spend &150+ or more for my first. Any relatively cheap roomy 1s you've enjoyed? How'd you find them?

Posted: 11 Nov 2020 07:31 AM PST

How big is/are your aquariums? Any cheaper but good and roomy ones to recommend? All input appreciated

I tried eBay, Gumtree, FB marketplace, online pet atores, none.helped. they're either $2 andn2P 9r $300 and enough to cause a baby hazard.

I don't wanna go dirt cheap because I want the space to be right for them (I know basic requirements) but I also want to have lots eft over for accessories , decorations and foor for them in that week. Especially considering how much stuff they need to stay in equilibrium lol I'm also a srltidentc with no impressive amounts of income lol

Any suggestions are welcome. Decision, decisions... Btw I keep saying them but it's likely to be 1 for a start if I ever do get one.

Is 20L ideal for my lil babe?

Posted: 11 Nov 2020 06:37 AM PST

I use sand substrate since I heard that by using gravel, the lotl may mom 'em. Also - should I be using real aquatic plants?
