Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:43 AM PST

I found a 100L tank for a axolotl I'm going to buy, but I need to know what air pump do I need, what temperature regulator (to keep the water in between 14 degrees and 20 degrees) , what light and what vacuum to vacuum to vacuum their excrements

New Owner- Axolotl is Sick

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 10:22 AM PST

Hey guys. I got an axolotl a few weeks ago from someone who was moving and couldn't transport her that far. She was very healthy when I got her. I keep a freshwater fish tank, so I have experience with water testing/changing and general upkeep.

However, my axolotl has developed a bump on her head. It is the same color as her skin and appeared in just a few days. Today I looked at it and it looked like it had burst like a blister. There was a little extra skin hanging and the spot is now a darker color. What should I do? I just want her to be happy and healthy.

Some background: I tested her 10g tank and the pH is good ammonia and nitrites are 0 and nitrates are in the safe orange range. She has a HOB filter for a 20 gallon, some plants and a hide. All of the decorations were what she was kept in by the last owner. Water is a little on the warm side (upper 60s F) which I'm trying to fix with double-bagged ice so it doesn't get into the enclosure.

I tubbed her with 100% water changes every day and her air stone and a hide. She won't come out of the hide, and hasn't eaten in almost a week. I was told she was 2 years old, she's about 5 inches long and eats every 3 days. I have fed her sinking shrimp pellets, bloodworms, and earthworms. She stopped eating after I accidentally fed her an earthworm that was too big for her (they stretch out quite a bit once you submerge them). I realized it, and grabbed the worm with my tongs, hoping she would tear the worm in half but she ended up spitting it out.

I'm very worried and I just want her to be OK. Please help!

Old axolotl, new friends?

Posted: 18 Nov 2020 06:32 AM PST

Hey I have my lovely axolotl hedwig (leucistic) who is i think 6 or 7. Anyway I've always wanted a Melanoid or even just other tank mates for him. I know pretty much anything new in the tank he will most likely eat. Any suggestions on what to do? He's in a 40 gall corner tank w a sand bottom and almost no decor besides some moss balls.

Also if anyone has ideas on how to make the tank more lively in general that would be cool ( plants, new decor etc...)

Thanks

Accidentally sucked my axolotl when cleaning tank

I was cleaning the tank with a 3/4 inch hose and the little guy got sucked accidentally. I am terrible sorry, it never happened before. The guy seemed hurt inmediately (first picture) but he was moving around fine so I let him rest. Today he seems a bit better but he won't eat anything (before the accident he was a voraceous eater) so I am worried.

He shared the tank with endler and whiteclouds. I saw one endler female pecking at his wound so I will move him to a hospital tank. Do you know if I should put tea bags for this? fridging? antibiotics?
