First time they’re meeting in the quarantine tank, little guy(Marco) was a little nervous. Hoping things go better once they go to their real tank

2 fancies in a 40 gallon?

I have one calico ranchu who just seems lonely in there by himself so I was wondering if I could a friend? I don't want to stress the cycle I have going in the tank though, so I'm looking for some advice! (Ranchu is 5.5 inches)

sick fish caused by nematodes?

Posted: 14 Oct 2020 08:05 AM PDT

Hi there,

I recently had one of my goldfish start to pinecone and moved him to a 20G sick tank. Put the heater up to 77, epsom salt baths nightly, and treated with Kanaplex. It's been a few weeks and nothing seems to be helping and he's now very floaty and not eating. Our fish vet asked me to bring in a sample of my filter from my main tank. He found out the sample I provided was filled with nematodes. I have 5 other fancy goldfish in this tank so I'm kinda freaking out. I do 50% water changes weekly and my water conditions have always been pristine. The only thing I've done different was introduce a snail, started feeding repashy and introduced a new fish after 6 weeks of quarantine. What could have caused this? I'm getting dewormer from the vet (I live in Canada and you can't buy anything in stores here)

Does anyone have any tips on getting rid of nematodes? Should I rinse all my filters out? 100% water change? Scrub their decorations? My other 5 fish seem to be healthy and the only one that was effected was the "weaker" fish out of the bunch. Any advice is appreciated.

Are Tannins good for Goldfish?

I read they help reduce the pH in aquarium water, but not sure if they're recommended for goldfish tanks/ponds?

Would you recommend driftwood, almond leaves, bael pods, etc?

Introducing a heater to established tank?

Posted: 14 Oct 2020 01:32 PM PDT

Been keeping my 2 fantails in room temperature water for almost 2 months and I don't have a thermometer in it currently to see what temp it is at... With winter coming up here, is getting a heater suggested and what temperature would they be the most comfortable? I don't want to introduce a heater too quickly and cause shock or keep the water too hot, so if you use a heater I'd love to hear about it!

My fish just ate course aquarium salt

So, my fish just ate pretty large-sized aquarium salt pellets because they're gluttonous morons sometimes. Will they be fine? They're making the same "icky" facial expressions as they do when they eat garlic but I'm not sure how it would affect them internally. Is this something to worry about? I'm leaving them for a couple of days today and can't stay to monitor them.
