Why is my mystery snail escaping his tank?

Posted: 21 Oct 2020 04:30 AM PDT

This is my first time with snails, we have 3 mystery snails we bought from the pet store. We've had them about 6 months now, they seem fairly active, always zooming around the tank. They're in a 10 gal tank that's kept at 78° F. Any obvious things I should be looking for? We found on of the snails in our halfway this morning about 10ft from the tank. He has a little shell damage but it just a small chip near the opening. No cracks. He must have landed on the plush rug below. He seems fine as well. No idea he how long he was out but he's zooming around the tank.

Edit: I forgot to mention we had a beta fish that died last week in the same tank. We got him from a friend about 4 years ago and she had him for a couple years before that. Could be related? Not sure.

Ramshorns anyone?

I've got about 6 or seven pink ramshorns I want to get rid of. I'd hate to just kill them but I don't want to keep scraping off egg sacks for the rest of my life. Located in Columbus GA.

I'm thinking of breeding nerite snails, because I heard it is possible but it is difficult. (More details in comments)

Question for those keeping snails with bettas

Posted: 20 Oct 2020 11:34 AM PDT

So I have 3 mystery snails, 2 nerite snails, and 1 rabbit snail as tank mates for my Betta in a 10 gal. I'm currently building a 22 long for the group but as of now nitrates never go above 10 and everyone seems to get along.

My question: I've heard bettas should have tannins/Indian almond leaves/catappa leaves in their tank for their well being and happiness. I've also heard that snails don't do well with tannic acid and it can degrade their shells and lower the pH which harms them. I know they're very common tank mates, so I wanted to get some info from those who have snails, bettas, and IAL/tannins together in a tank and see if you've seen any deterioration in your snails shells/well being after adding tannins!

TIA :)

Clown loach and nerite snails.

Can they live together? Set up a jarrarium but think would like to put the snails in my main tank. The other fish are fine but unsure about clown loaches. I made the jar tank because I thought the loaches would attack the snails in the first place
