Need advice on my 5 gallon tank. There is 2(male) guppies and 2 amano shrimp. I’ve recently run into a pest snail issue and was wondering if there is room for an assassin snail, thoughts?

Is my Ivory Mystery sick or dying?

Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:01 AM PDT

I will post a picture shortly.

I think my Ivory Mystery is either sick or dying.

I bought it when it was dime sized back in March of 2020. It was my first aquatic animal.

It is now a full 2", it's a chonker of a snail. Always super active.

Yesterday afternoon, while lights were on I found it still with it's lid more than half open, a good bit of it's body sticking out, eyes and antenna tightly retracted.

I'm seen them "sleep" like this before and I know they can sometimes rest like that for more than 12 hours...but something seemed off.

I probably shouldn't have, but I picked it up for closer inspection and it didn't even attempt to close its lid. I gently touched it and its body felt hard and stiff. Still no reaction at all. No smell though.

I put it in a open area and over time it did start to stir some, but it wasn't moving correctly, it even fell on over on its side.

I left it be and then eventually put it on the bottom of a floating breeder box and turned lights out.

Not an hour later, it was hanging out on the inside wall of the breeder box!?

I took the lid off the breeder box and sunk the box onto its side.

As of this morning, lights still out, it's still in the breeder box, but has definitely moved.

It is back to that half open, tightly retracted sensors position. I have not tried to move it or bother it again.

No recent changes to tank: 30 gal, AC70 HOB.

Water parameters normal, AD frog, all fish, two other mysterys and other various snail species behaving normally.

Any thoughts?

Update:

as of 9:22AM EST, it left the breeder box, had a ways to go to get where it is now, but it's on its side again...

Here's pictures.

I will get some spinach blanched. It loves spinach.

So, this is a little horned nerite of mine, and it looks like their shell suddenly changed colour/pattern? Did something happen to them?

Questions from a beginner

Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:51 AM PDT

Hi all! I'm planning to get a snail and I just don't really know where to start. I was wondering if a bowl would be ok and if not how to set up a tank? I really just only want one snail just so that I'll be able to give it as much care as possible and not overload myself since I'm just starting. I'm planning on putting real plants in the bowl/tank for food and filtering, but that's all I've planned so far😅. Thanks so much in advance!
