| Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:06 AM PDT So I have an aquarium. In it I have some clown loach, tetra and a wood shrimp. I bought two snails yesterday to help with the algae and I keep finding them on their backs.... Like constantly. I'm turning them over but it's turning into a full time job! I did some googling and now I'm worried my clown loach are the ones doing this and actually they are the worst tank mates for the snails! So now I have two choices. My mum has a bioorb without a heater and she can have them. But I was told snails can't go in a bioorb as they can't climb up the tank? (This might be bull mind) Or I have an empty demijohn wine jar that I would convert into a tank just for the snails. It's a good size but the whole at the top isn't the biggest so getting plants in etc might be tricky. I want to set up the demijohn but I'm concerned about; Filtration - or lack of? What needs to go in it - live plants for algae etc? But any tips on how to get the plants in? Smell - will the water smell if it's stagnant? Kind of links to filtration. Sorry if these questions are really dull! If the demijohn isn't the best option and neither is the orb I will return the snails but would like to keep them if it's possible . X [link] [comments] | ||
| Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:05 AM PDT i got two rabbit snails in the mail recently from the same seller through ebay. i put both in my tank after acclimating for about 20-30 minutes, and then i added them in as gently as i could so i don't hurt their fragile bodies. one of the snails is extremely active and eating everything it comes in contact with. it even tried burrowing into my gravel and failed because my gravel is too thick for them to burrow into. the other one though has stayed in the same position. i've seen him stick onto my tank and then falls off the side landing in the same spot. he seems to be eating the decaying plant matter that was near him and i have seen him turn his whole body around, but he has stuck to the same spot and i am extremely worried. i previously had four guppies and an orange sakura shrimp die in that tank two weeks prior to when i got the snails. it started off with one guppy, then i replaced that guppy, and then the new one and a previous died, and then my other one passed away slowly. now, i only have two rabbit snails, a nerite snail, and a bamboo shrimp. i have been checking the ammonia levels since the passings and it has read 0ppm ever since (i only have three snails and a bamboo shrimp). i checked my nitrites and nitrates levels as well as gh and kh and ph and they were all within the safe ranges. i checked with a petco employee just to be sure and he says everything is normal. my tank temperature is at 78-82 (it's hot in socal and even though i cover my tank when the sun starts to hit it the temp stays constant). prior to getting the fish and the new snails, i housed a 2 year old nerite snail and a 4 month old bamboo shrimp and they are doing excellent. please please PLEASE someone let me know what is wrong with him or if he's still stressed or something i love him so so much and i would hate to see him pass so soon )-: i'm sort of new to fish keeping since i stopped for a good year and a half (yes my nerite snail was the only one in the tank for 1.5 years and he was thriving) so i'm still trying to get to know my tank a bit more and be more observant and careful. i have been researching a lot lately on fish care and even created this account specifically to get answers for my fish. | Posted: 02 Oct 2020 09:52 AM PDT Recently I acclimated some moss for submersion into my 20gal betta-molly tank. Let it be known that I've always had a mini population of snails in my tank (From hitchhiker snails at my lfs,) ever since I first established the tank. I love snails, and it gave my betta something to bully besides the mollies lol. Anyways, i attached the moss to my spiderwood yesterday evening, (a week later), using gorilla glue gell. Waking up, every baby snail on the planet earth has decided to emerge! Is this just coincidence? Its just a strange site to see. [link] [comments] | ||
