- am i correct in guessing these are males? they have what looks very similar to a second breathing tube, which from what i understand is most likely the male reproductive organ. i tried taking them out to sex them and they looked male, but i wanted a second opinion!

- Advice for mystery clutch! I only have one snail in a 5 gallon, first clutch after owning her for 4 months. Any chance they’re fertile? Most of the eggs are underwater because she laid them on the lid above the filter output - are those goners regardless? Do I need to dispose of them?

Snail waste production and other questions Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:36 PM PDT Hi everybody, I have two shrimp only tanks and I'm really hoping to get either a nerite snail or an apple/mystery snail for one or both tanks. I've been researching them lately and I keep seeing mentions of them heavily producing waste/dirtying up tanks. Both of my tanks are 10 gallons, planted and I do weekly 10% water changes. Would one single snail per tank cause any waste issues? I've also heard potential for apple snails to eat live plants. I would ideally like nerite snails but from what I've heard, the eggs seem to be extremely difficult to remove, which is why I'm leaning more towards something that lays removable egg clutches. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments]

Just want to make sure this is typical behavoir Posted: 17 Oct 2020 05:02 PM PDT I just bought two before snails for my 5 gallon tank that holds my beta fish. Clearly, Nymphadora is startled to have new friends and keeps puffing up but I'm sure he'll get used to them. But since I've never had snails before, is it normal for one to be zooming around cleaning the tank and one to be just sitting there, not moving? Fred and George have literally been in there new home for about an hour so I'm not too concerned. Some more information would be nice to have though! [link] [comments]

New mystery snail still hasn’t come out Posted: 17 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT Okay guys, maybe someone can help me out. Here's the facts: -Went to a LFS for the first time ever yesterday -got several things but decided to get a mystery snail (somewhat impulsively ) at the end (I have only kept Nerites till now) -the guy gave me one who was closed up, I asked if that meant anything, the guy kinda brushed it off (there were several strange things about this encounter prior to that) -I got a big ivory mystery and a red racer nerite, both from same tank, put into same bag - when I got home red racer was already being active in bag crawling all over mystery, I did temp acclimation for ten mins then added in some of my water to their bag and then eventually let them into the tank. - a few mins after entering tank: red racer kept crawling all over mystery and mystery was trying to open itself up (I thought) -red racer was on mystery's foot, so mystery gave up trying to open -mystery is still closed up and in the same spot about ~16 hrs after being put in the tank. (I thought I saw her kind of moving last night when I turned all lights off and was going to bed, but this morning she's in the same spot exactly and closed) I smelled her before I put her in and she was definitely alive to some degree (also saw movement) I'm about to move her a bit and maybe smell again now. Does anyone have any advice? Is this normal mystery snail behavior? Could it have hurt itself when trying to open and having red racer over its foot (red racer is about 1/2 the size of mystery's foot) Thanks guys [link] [comments] |
