Posted: 18 Oct 2020 07:12 PM PDT TLDR; how can I make sure my disabled koi thrives inside? I just recently took home my first koi. I usually stick to fancy goldfish, but this guy just pulled my heart strings too much. I made a separate post with a short video of him showing off his kinked tail, sticking straight up at almost a 90°. At the petstore I bought him at, he was in a large tank with many other koi and goldfish and because he has basically no directional abilities he was getting bumped into and picked on. Luckily he had no injuries such as open wounds or even ripped fins. The employees here are wonderful and really care for and watch all their animals so one was able to answer a lot of questions about him. He eats just fine and seems to have a good energy level. Other than his swimming disability he seems to have no other issues. I took him home where I have a 20 gal long with a baby ranchu. My ranchu over all is very docile and couldn't really pick on the koi even if he tried since he isn't a strong swimmer either. They do a very good job of both getting their own share of dinner. Since I've given Circus (the koi), more space he seems to be figuring out how to maneuver and does a really good job of controlling where he is in terms of depth. I'm really pleased with how he's getting along in his new home♡ I'm very aware this won't be his forever tank and I'll soon have to upgrade him. I've got a 40 gal tub outside with a couple fantails but I worried about raccoons and neighborhood cats getting him, even with a net over it he can't exactly duck for cover quickly. I've got a 100 gal in storage and am waiting til I can make space for it and have big enough fish to put in it. Anyone have any input on how to help this little guy thrive? [link] [comments] | ||

Posted: 18 Oct 2020 06:37 AM PDT Hello r/koi! I'm in the process of buying a house with TWO koi ponds! I've wanted ponds for a long time but never had the chance till now. I'm trying to learn as much as I can before the move day, please give me all your advice for a new pond/koi owner! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
