Is this a hoesei or hectori?

Throw back Thursday to my original Jawbreaker/ Tye Dye. TBT because I was a fool to not own an inkbird attached to my Cobalt Neo-therm heater, which boiled my entire tank one day. Never again. :(

Tank stocking suggestions?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 08:49 PM PDT

Hi! I'm new here, so forgive me for my lack of knowledge on most things involving reef tanks. I have freshwater tanks so this is all new to me.

So one of my professors has a 22 gal reef tank that he is looking for stocking suggestions for. This tank is kept at my university and he has asked me to do some research to figure out other stuff we can add to it. I've gotten involved because I miss my tanks at home and figured this could be pretty interesting! I know some basics of reef tanks, but not a ton about stocking them. The tank houses two clownfish and has some live rock. My prof really wanted to stock it with seahorses but did not want to add super expensive stock when the quarantine started in March and possibly lose them. I did a bit of research online and found that clownfish are not really suitable tankmates for any species of seahorses, unless there is a decent amount of decor to break up lines of sight. Even at that, there still could be aggression issues.

What would you guys suggest for this tank? TIA!

Initial filter media

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 06:05 PM PDT

Hi reefers! I'm getting my first tank setup (Waterbox 50.3 AIO) and I'm going to be doing it with live rock. Since I'm trying to prevent as much die off, I'm wondering what filter media I should start with? I'm planning on getting the InTank media baskets, as I've heard nothing but praise for them over the filter socks that come with the tank.

Since this will be my first tank I would love any other advice, particularly about cycling with live rock, and how to keep as much alive as possible.

I'm so excited to get started!!!
