My work in progress 60 gallon bedroom tank that will soon house two lovely goldfish. Still waiting on a large shipment of plants to fill it in but happy with it so far.

My first goldfish

Hope they don't mind the cramped conditions for a few weeks.

A family member overfed my goldfish and I have lost two of them before I even found out. Suddenly everything makes sense. How to deal with their losses?

Anyone else ended up with an asshole fish?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:34 PM PDT

I got a telescope panda because hey it would be cool and maybe the color that sticks would be cool. Cut to a year later and he's reached maturity and he's just an aggressive asshole. He started beating up his ranchu mate and pushing him into a corner. The behavior is that of breeding but like 4/5 are males and also the bullying unrelenting. I separated them and got a 75g for all my good fancies. I tried later again this year when I got the 75g balanced and he just ended up bullying everyone even my biggest oranda. So he went back to his prison tank.

I doubt there is a solution here I'm just stuck being the warden to this asshole for the next 14 years or so whole he lives out his life.

What type of goldfish is the calico one? LFS said it was a “calico oranda”. I have my doubts tho and he’s growing much faster than my other orandas.

Favorite tanks?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 01:32 PM PDT

Hey folks - I went through the wiki and didn't see anything specific about this so I wanted to get recommendations for "panoramic" tanks. I see some good BioOrb or Fluval tanks but I'm unsure folks' opinions of those brands. I've gone the route of buying all the pieces for a 10 and 20 gallon tank in the past, and my beloved betta (RIP PJ, you were amazing) lived in a Marineland setup, but I want to get something larger and it seems that trying to maintain that slick look is difficult with setups where you purchase everything separately - or maybe I'm just not good enough and so have too many extraneous wires.

Do you recommend either brand or could you share minimalist tank set ups for me to get inspiration?

Is this considered ich ?? I dont see any other spots on his body but this appeared today. And his buddy seems to be almost nipping at him (lovingly hopefully?) Water parameters are good. Should i add more salt in the aquarium and raise the temp? 55gal, planted, 3 goldfish, 3 filters (2hob, 1ug)

Banana worms?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 07:18 PM PDT

I, after 3 years of planning, finally have some ranchu goldfish eggs on their way to hatch! I am ready to hatch baby brine shrimp (and have had success in experimenting with it), but I've seen other fish keepers use banana worms as an alternative for BBS. I was already planning on raising them and microworms for when they get older, but how old exactly should goldfish fry be before feeding? Microworms I've heard can be fed by 2 weeks, and banana worms are smaller than them. What age could I start using them? I still plan on using BBS, but because this will be my first fry that will be dependent on live food (I really would hate to rely on egg yolk), I will want a back up if anything is wrong. Both parents are very special to me (and freaking beautiful), and I want to make sure their fry have the best shot at life as they can :)

Saw this at the Aquarium Shop. Do you guys think it can be saved? What should I do if I want to save it? Hope to hear your advice

Goldfish gang

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 04:13 PM PDT

I inherited 2 goldfish ponds when we bought our house. At first, I hated them because of all the snakes that resided in them. Now, I am obsessed with them and spend at least an hour a day messing with them. My bigger pond has 8 fish, 1 common and 7 comets. I was wondering if it was normal behavior for one fish to be excluded from their little "gang". 7 of them are always together, and the other one is always by himself on the other side of the pond. Is this normal? Could it be sick?

Ryukin Fancy Goldfish resting at bottom of tank?

Posted: 10 Sep 2020 09:34 AM PDT

So I got a Ryukin fancy goldfish about 10 days ago and she was doing fine swimming around being a fish swimming through bubbles and sifting through the sand. I've noticed today she's been doing a bit of bottom sitting. It's not constant but it's often enough for me to notice.

My water parameters seem fine

pH: 6.8 Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: 0 Nitrates: 0

What she has in her tank: Filter for 20-70gallons Sponge filter for 20 gallons Long blue airstone

I did a water change and cleaned the sponge filter yesterday so that's why there are no nitrates. I fully cycled the tank before I got her too.

She could also be stressed because I've been experimenting with her on air stones. I've been taking the airstone in and out of her tank to see if her swim pattern would change (she favored one corner of the tank which had me concerned about too much flow). Yesterday I left the airstone out all day but added it back in when I saw her bottom sitting quite a bit today.

Could that of stressed her out? Me taking the airstone and putting it back in throughout the 10 days?? Today I added the airstone back in because I thought either she was bored or had oxygen problems because the airstone was out.

Another thing that crossed my mind is maybe she's just tired? I have yet to actually see her sleep (including at night time) so maybe she's just exhausted from stress swimming for the past 10 days?

Idk I'm obviously not a fish expert, just a concerned owner. If anyone knows what's going on via sickness or boredom I would appreciate a response and possibly some advice!

Thanks! Hope to hear from someone
