Saturday side boob...

After 10 years got my dream fish today (was full on ready to buy pods weekly). Nearly cried tears of joy when he ate a frozen brine shrimp.

Can anyone ID this coral?

Welcome to the reef tiny baby! Hopefully your new missus accepts you with open fins but looks like almost all of the squad have come down to say hi. His centre band doesn’t quite meet up and I find it so adorable

Reef Tank in an Apartment Building

Posted: 12 Sep 2020 09:36 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm considering getting a 50 gallon cube with a 10 gallon sump in my apartment. Im on the first floor in an older 4 story building but there's a basement below me. Should I be worried about it falling through the floor?

Do I need to add ABS cement to this part of my plumbing? Same question with the return pipe.

I'm going to be putting together a 75g long reef tank with a sump. Questions about items I may be missing and water flow..

Posted: 12 Sep 2020 05:35 PM PDT

Here is an itemized list I've compiled as I've bought things to set up my 75g reef tank with a sump. I plan to focus mostly on coral than fish, even though I'll of course be getting the usual starter fish. I already have a very expensive RO system for my whole house, so I'll be using that for making my water. Please let me know if I'm missing anything..

Things I already have:

  • Tank, 55g Long- $199.99

  • Tank, 20g (for sump), $33.99

  • Sump Kit, 20g- $115.35

  • Sump light- $24.98

  • LED lights x2- $228.98 (119.99 ea)

  • Protein Skimmer- $129.99

  • CaribSea Life rock, 40lbs- $149.99

  • CaribSea Belize Branch, 20lbs- $96.96

  • Background wallpaper- $18.99

  • Siphon tube- $10.99

  • 160g Reef Salt- $82.99

  • Test kit- $18.99

  • Salinity scale- $14.99

  • Magnet Cleaner- $29.99

  • Digital thermometer- $9.99

  • Heater- $46.99

  • Net- $3.99

  • Reef Accelerator- $23.99

I'm positive I'm missing some things. Here's some things I know I still need:

  • Stand (building myself)

  • Live Sand, roughly 52.5 lbs (calculated here)

  • Buckets, probably 2-3

  • Overflow box

  • PVC piping (I'll get this later)

  • Powerhead? Do I need any of these with a sump?

  • Fish, not focused on this just yet

  • Coral, I'm thinking mostly LPS. Would that be a bad idea? I may mix in some SPS of i get comfortable with it. I will be getting frags as I go. Slowly. As I've learned.

  • Several other dosing Additives

Current Total calculated, as of now:

$1,209.14

Yeah, my bank account is not happy in any way.

But it will totally worth it!...

As I said in the title, I don't know what I need for water flow, if my sump will be enough or if i need some powerheads. Please help me out in any way you know you can. Anything I might be missing or need to know. I've done an unhealthy amount of research. But will always accept advice. Thank you all!

Reefs4less revoew

Posted: 12 Sep 2020 10:21 PM PDT

Hey everyone. Anyone use reefs4less before? What's your experience? Good bad? They have a killer deal on a tang I want to get, but the website looks like it was made by a 12 year old. Is it legit? Any honest reviews? Is it quality compared to say live aquaria or saltwater fish . Thanks ahead of time! And happy reefing!

Does anyone have experience pairing the Yellow Watchman Goby and Chrysiptera sp. damsels?

Posted: 12 Sep 2020 09:30 PM PDT

Hi all, I am wondering if anyone has experience pairing Yellow Watchman Gobies and Chrysiptera sp. damselfish, specifically species like the Azure. Are they both hermaphrodites in the sense that like Clowns, put in two that aren't too big and they'll pretty much automatically form a pair after sorting themselves out?

Also with regards to keeping Pajama Cardinals, what's the best number to keep them in? Even or odd? Will they kill each off by pairing off like the Bangaiis?

This is all for a medium sized tank 65-70 gallons.

Thanks a lot.

GSP Barrier?

Posted: 12 Sep 2020 05:23 PM PDT

I though I read a while ago about using something as a barrier for GSP. Like making an epoxy ring around it, and you just rip up the epoxy when it gets to it and then redo the ring? Or is there something it won't overgrow?

Anybody have luck with a coral beauty angel and or flame angel in a reef tank? If so should I add the coral or angel first?
