I think I made a massive mistake

Watered my jar and this little fellow climbed out for a walk.

Day one! It's two gallons. There's some corkscrew val in the back right that will hopefully take off and really fill it in.

If I take sand, plants, water, and some filter material from an already established tank to make a jarrarium, would it be instantly cycled? Or should I still wait a bit?

Planning on doing a 1g walstad type jar with 2 Neocaridina shrimp, so no air stone or filter. Everything but the soil will from an already established tank. Was gonna bury some used filter floss in the soil to inoculate. Just curious if I should still give it some time to build up bacteria or if it would be to go.

Beginner Jarrarium - tips/resources?

Posted: 15 Sep 2020 05:36 PM PDT

Hello,

I would like to start my first Jarrarium using this container Imgur link to photo.

Because it's so small, I'll probably avoid putting living creatures (aside from the microscopic) in it.

How do I go about starting this? What materials do I need to gather/buy? How do I choose what substrate to use?

I'm already going to invest in a stand so it'll be seated at an incline.

Thank you for your help!

Can someone tell me what's up with these red-ish algeas in my 40 days old freshwater jar?
