UPDATE: Mystery snail, shell is looking really bad, no idea why

Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:07 PM PDT

Just wanted to update everyone who commented on my first post with advice!

I went to my local fish store and they suggested calcium as the problem like several of you did. The two people I spoke to both gave me different advice but the second one asked what kind of calcium I was giving them.

I had to search to find a picture of the product packaging but once I did, I showed her and she told me that it wasn't actually a calcium supplement, but food containing calcium, therefore not enough to do anything or really help with my snails shells.

I got home and added both ph neutral regulator to the water to get it at 7 in case it was low, and then added some liquid calcium supplement as well.

I did also buy a kh test but I have not done it yet as I want to see if calcium is the issue before I address water hardness levels.

Help! Baby snails killing adult snails!

Posted: 23 Sep 2020 12:21 AM PDT

I got some mystery snails for my tank a few weeks ago. They've grown since arrival, and are very active. But their shells have started..flaking? I've placed wonder shells and some small tourmaline balls around the tank in an attempt to add more calcium, but I'm lost and really worried. Help?

Are these nerite snails?

Are these nerite snails?

So...I bought two snails but I'm unsure if they're Nerite Snails. I've take some pictures so it'll be nice if you guys can identify them.

This is the red one.

Brown / green one.

Both of them together.

Their bottom / flesh.

Brown / green one will sit on top. Does that mean it's a he?

If they're Nerite Snails I suppose I'll put them in different containers while doing daily wc and wait for a few days to see if there are eggs. Or they're way too young to lay eggs? They are like 1cm only.

I also noticed that the brown / green one's body / flesh is way darker than the red one, is it normal?

Thanks!

Okay so my Mystery snail has been growing rapidly since I put him in my planted tank. I’ve tried giving him cuddle bone in my hospital tank to improve his shell strength/boost calcium but I’m not even sure that he ate any. Can someone give me some tips?

I have 3 Giant Columbian Ramshorns and last night I had spent a lot of time trying to see if I had any females. I gave up thinking I had all males, so i was gonna buy more to increase the chance of getting a female. Then I come into my room and I see this one laying eggs!

Help with ID - this snail hitchhiked in on a plant. It looks different than the bladder and pond snails I have. Any ideas what type of snail it could be?

Is this a mystery snail baby? I’ve had 5-6 different types of snails and never seen babies look like this. Thought they were ramshorn but 99% sure they’re not

Snails becoming inactive and dying!!!!

Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:20 PM PDT

I don't know what's going on but my mystery snails and nerites snails suddenly(2 weeks ago) stopped being active and now within the last few days I've been noticing they have been dying. Nothing in their tank has changed. Parameters have always been 0,0,20-30. Water changes were same as always. I have found nothing to explain this! I am so sad to be loosing my snails. I have 2 younger mystery's that are only around 5-6 months old and they never stopped being active but all other have. Could the others just had bad genetics?

How many white cloud minnows could I put into a 10 gallon with 3 mystery snails?

Posted: 22 Sep 2020 08:34 AM PDT

I have a 10g tank currently being used for my betta and a 5g tank that is not being used at all.

Context: I had never ever seen my betta flair and figured he's pretty chill, so I decided to order two baby mystery snails as his tankmates. Well, the snails arrived yesterday and I ended up receiving 3 instead of 2... and my betta HATES them. I did everything I was supposed to - rearranged the whole tank and added the snails in first - but NOPE constant flaring, nipping, and lunging. I felt so bad for the snails. They definitely can't all live together :( which brings me to my current issue...

Because my betta and snails need to be separated, I'm thinking about moving my betta into the 5 gallon tank and making the 10 gallon a community tank with snails and SOME sort of fish. After doing some research, I found that white cloud minnows and mystery snails would be super peaceful together and have similar ideal temperatures too (no heater)! SO that brings me to my final question: Would a community tank work with 3 mystery snails and white cloud minnows? If so, how many minnows am I able to put into the tank without overstocking?

TL;DR - Can I put 3 mystery snails with white cloud minnows? If so, how many minnows?

Moving mystery snail offspring

Posted: 22 Sep 2020 07:37 AM PDT

Hello, I have a small problem, and it's that I had to move my mystery snail egg clutches to a more survivable condition than the spot they were previously laid.

I now have the eggs floating in my tank in a tupperware container that is lined with a moist paper towel. It seems that my cheap efforts were fruitful because today when I woke up, a few babies were emerged.

Now, my question is how do I move and prepare them further? I was thinking of putting them in yet another tupperware container that has some water from my tank and then leaving them some food. I would throw them into the tank but I have a feeling that they will be cannibalized.

Thanks in advance.
