IDK what these zoas are called and my iPhone gives them no justice. Teal body, pink mouth, blue tendrils. There were two heads when I got the frag and I’m excited to see them spread more.

Reef tank recommendations

Posted: 23 Aug 2020 08:25 PM PDT

I'm looking for a reef tank around 20-40 gallons with a built in sump and room for a filter sock. I've been looking at the 32 gal bio cube but I'm not certain. The most important aspect to me is the noise as it's in my room. I'm a beginner with reef tanks and any general advice is appreciated.

I recently paid for a used 16 gal reef tank and I hate it. It was advertised to me as a 20 gallon, and the sump is extremely loud. It came with a wall of green star polyps in the back and I'm worried they're dying of shock. The amount of crud that came off of them was crazy when I used a pipette to blow water at it. No polyps have come out but I'm willing to wait a week before giving up. When I tried to fill the tank up once I got it home the water was black. I removed the sand because it had what seemed like years of fish poop in it. The entire thing smells awful. My current saltwater tank and my freshwater ones just can't compare. I had planned on upgrading my current saltwater tank to this set up but I'm considering getting rid of it.

My current saltwater tank I want to upgrade has been running for a few months, I recently added the first few frags zoanthids, Star polyps, a pair of clownfish and 3 tiny hermit crabs. It's a 20 gallon tall. All of the pre-made sumps I've found have been in similar prices to just buying an aquarium that comes with it hidden in the back. If you think that just buying a separate sump would be better I'd appreciate a recommendation on that as well.

Any idea what kind of wrasse this is? LFS said “carpenter’s I think” but weren’t really sure. Could it be a female?
