First nano tank questions

Posted: 14 Aug 2020 08:27 PM PDT

I've started a self sustaining nano tank recently 7.5 gallon tank I used dirt from outside and gravel layer on-top I am having an issue of the dirt making the water murky I know if I let it sit it shall settle but is there a better way to get rid of murky water

Has anyone tried this nano filter?

I found this filter on Amazon. If it works, it would be great for my planned 5 gallon planted shrimp tank. The reviews are fairly positive and it's very affordable. But I'm deeply skeptical.

  1. Can such a tiiiny sponge offer much biological filtration?

  2. Again, given how small it is, can it offer any mechanical filtration or will it get clogged constantly?

  3. Will it stop working if I stick a sponge over the intake grill to stop shrimplets being sucked up?

If anyone's tried this, or something like it, please let me know what your experiences were, good and bad. Especially the bad.

Thanks!
