Reef Tank - Aquariums - Quick shot before lights out

Quick shot before lights out

I live on an island in the middle of the South Pacific. No LFS here, but I finally got my 16 biocube shipped and just went out on the water to select some live rock to get it started. Hopefully this gets better.

Update on sick Toadstool. There were 4 snails inside its base consuming it from the inside out. What type of snails are theses?

(meta) the recent fundraising post was a little disconcerting

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:06 AM PDT

Yes, it's a situation all of us are shocked to see but the video evidence didn't even show a broken tank, just half an empty tank in a driveway. There were deleted comments, probably rude, misogynistic comments, but zero comments asking for further proof.

The mods locked the thread but the link to the GoFundMe stayed up and the person with the new account, with no other comment history, made over $1000.

What allegedly happened was a crime, that's for sure, and the discussion was quite good in regards to that. Other subreddits have a policy of sharing the police report number when discussing a crime. That should have happened here.

Instead, somebody made $1000 and we all simply have to cross our fingers, hoping that what was alleged to have happened, actually happened, which is strange because we need to wish for it to have never happened in the first place. We need to pine for it to be just a hoax to make money because killing animals sucks.

Help! Clownfish had babies in the tank!

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 11:01 PM PDT

I've currently got hundreds of small clown fish fry swimming around my tank that came out of nowhere. It's 11 PM at my house and no stores are open for me to go get a smaller tank to put them in I don't want them to die or get eaten what can I do to get through the night?

What’s everyone’s opinion on putting a BTA in a new tank. I have a 3 month old tank and I’d like to get one for my clowns but I’ve heard to wait 6 months. Is it safe to put one in now or should I wait?

Just inherited this 29 gallon biocube and I can‘t wait to set it up. What would yall recommend as far as filtration? I’m thinking I’m definitely going to put some chaeto and marinepure spheres back there. Any ideas?

What could cut a lobe from a toad stool like this?

Sometimes when I’m looking at my bicolor blenny, he gets white markings on his face and body, has anyone seen something like this?

New frags won’t open feeder tentacles?

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 07:34 PM PDT

I got some new LPS frags a few days ago, and they are doing fine other than not having feeders or sweepers. They'll puff up and their mouths will protrude, but the tentacles will never come out at night. It's been 3 days since I got them, and I'm probably being too worried about everything, but is this normal? Parameters are all good, 0 nitrates and nitrites, Salinity 1.022-1.023, pH is good (I checked it earlier and it was fine but I forgot the exact number); So everything appears to be fine. I have a candy cane frag and a Favia frag. Am I just being paranoid and need to wait for them to fully acclimate?

Any recommendations for the best BioCube 32 light upgrade?

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 11:12 PM PDT

Moving soon and setting up a BioCube 32 in my new college apartment. I've kept larger tanks and I would like to be able to keep acro and other high-light corals. I would like to keep the hood. Is Steve LED the best option? Price is irrelevant.

Sea Urchin Dying!

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:00 PM PDT

Help! I purchased a blue tuxedo urchin for my 20 gallon Max Nano from RedSea about a month ago, but I added a pair of clownfish shortly after and he started to lose spines. I tested my water and saw my nitrates were at .5 ppm (according to an API drop test), so I moved him to my QT tank until the parameters leveled out. He continued to lose spines, and now he's half bald. My current parameters are as follows: 0 ppm Ammonia, 0ppm Nitrite, 0-5 ppm Nitrate, 0 ppm Phosphate, 520 ppm Calcium. Until today he was still picking up shells as camouflage. Is he too far gone to save, or does he still have a chance?

(P.S. Sorry for formatting, I am on mobile)

Putting a clownfish pair in a 5g bucket with dry rock? Question

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 09:40 PM PDT

I bought fire fish for my 25g tank and I have a clownfish pair in it. I'm removing the clownfish pair because of bullying and putting them in 4g worth of water in a 5g bucket.

They'll have a large piece of dry rock to hide. And a heater. How long can they last in there while the fire fish establish themselves.

Trying something potentially really bad

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:30 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'll jump right into it. I have a 30 long AIO. It was taken over by flatworms. I can't even get them all out. That was my bad I got lazy and didn't dip some frags.

I recently got a 50 AIO and I added my clowns today after some bacteria. I really need my frags out of the old tank. So tomorrow I am dipping everything and moving it over.

Wish me luck.

Show me your most interesting/favourite CUC members, please?

Show me your most interesting/favourite CUC members, please?

I have a soft spot for CUC and would love some more members (so far, turbo and banded trochus snails, fire shrimp, peppermint shrimp, red leg hermits, one electric blue hermit - missold but love her - and a blue tuxedo urchin). Especially interested in crocea clams but interested in everything weird and wonderful, and not too tricky to keep for now at least! Photo of Shelly the electric blue hermit just because look at her!! :)

Hey folks, I found this in one of my tanks and I’m still fairly new to the salt world, I’m curious if he’s potentially harmful or if I can keep him in?
