Posted: 12 Jul 2020 11:04 PM PDT I've always wanted a Coral Beauty. I ended up getting a nice MAC certified one several weeks ago and did the proper QT with Chloroquine Phosphate and she was nice and healthy. Yesterday I moved her to my display tank and today I saw my emeral crab had snatched her and was munching on her newly dead body. Heartbreaking. The next time that crab is out I'm netting it to take it in for store credit. I got it because of some Bubble algae a while back. But the bubble algae is gone and so he's been munching on other stuff, including small fish. :( [link] [comments]
First time nano-reefer (or saltwater at all for that matter) - Coralife Biocube 32 Posted: 12 Jul 2020 08:48 PM PDT I've thinking about a nano-reef for some time now. I used to keep tropical tanks of various sizes, but was always afraid of saltwater, despite people telling me it wasn't as difficult as I was believing it to be. Fast forward to today, I am the proud owner of a Coralife Biocube 32. My finger's been on the trigger for a while but what pushed me over the edge was Petco is currently offering 15% off in-app purchases for in-store pickup. Unfortunately due to some issues with the app and inventory, it wouldn't let me go for the 32, but mercifully the store offered to pricematch the online price + give me the 15% off so I now have the cube and stand. immediate plan is to put the tank in the bathtub and fill it up to check for leaks. then short term plan is to get some live aragonite and live rock in, with potentially clown fish to follow, possibly an anemone and/or coral [link] [comments]

Need to know what epoxys are tank safe. Posted: 12 Jul 2020 07:10 PM PDT My girlfriends dad passed yesterday, he had a big live rock with fish tank that the family now needs to care for. I wanted to take some pictures and cast them in epoxy to sit in the tank. Can anybody tell me what to look for when deciding if its safe for a tank? On a time crunch so was hoping to get it from like Michael's or something. [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jul 2020 09:48 PM PDT Hey, I hope this kind of post is ok, but I was hoping I could get some questions straightened out about the parameters for how many fish and what size fish can be placed in a given tank. I've been eyeing getting an aquarium for a while and a reef one appeals to me most, and I just did a whole lot of research today but I can't seem to get a straight answer to the above. What I "hope" to do for my tank is at least three different fish species, one of them being 2 of some variety of clownfish (either a classic one or a orange skunk clownfish), a sea anemone if I can get away with one, eventually some cleanup crew species after the fish have lived in it a bit, corals, and a feather duster again if I can get away with it. Main problem is I can't afford or have room for a gigantic tank, a max of 30 gallons is what I'll do but that's not preferable, 20 gallons is preferable but I'm not sure it will be large enough for what I want. Most sources on how to come to the conclusion I'm asking for are very vague and any information on any species I look up for space requirements are inconsistent across the board, so I don't know what to believe. Further conflicting the issue is I saw this 13.5 gallon tank that I'm a fan of, it's a great deal, everything is built in, it's a good size for my living space but it definitely seems too small to me for what I'm asking but idk, some sites say clownfish need 30 gallons but I watched a vid where the guy puts 2 clownfish in it, so idk what sizes and numbers of fish it can have. Any help is appreciated, I'll even accept being told straight up that I am being unrealistic and I need to think smaller but I guess that's what I'm here for, your thoughts? [link] [comments]
Posted: 12 Jul 2020 07:05 AM PDT So a bit of good news first. Since my last post my tank is now fully cycled and I got a pair of clowns and my first two corals. One of those was a tiny frag of green and orange zoanthids. I removed them from their plug and glued them to a rock where I hope to start a zoanthid garden. I didn't damage any of the heads, In fact I barely touched them because they were already attached to a rock making it easy to glue down. I even washed my hands immediately after handling them but apparently that was still enough to ruin my night. I must have touched my face at some point because I woke up in the middle of the night feeling like I had pink eye. My eye was swollen almost shut, it burned, and was bright red. I was given some saline to rinse my eye out and some eye drops and it's still kind of irritated but it's already feeling better. I guess i got lucky and learned a lesson early because I've heard palytoxin can get pretty serious. I knew zoanthids could potentially have palytoxin but I didn't realize how potent that stuff is. I'm definitely wearing gloves and goggles if I handle zoas from now on. [link] [comments] |
