I got a 60 gallon tank with an air pump, and all equipment. How many goldfish can I add? How big will they get?

Reposting because the video wouldn’t work. His mouth is recovering. It looks so much better but looking a little red again. That doesn’t stop him from trying to eat my finger

help! (series of questions regarding tank size)

Posted: 23 Jul 2020 09:54 PM PDT

a while ago, naive lil ol me got 3 comet goldfish in a 10 gallon tank. After a few months that became two, then four years later became one - he died just a few days ago :(

We just put lil ol goldie into a 29 gallon tank all by himself, but for the past 4 years he hasn't been growing in size. Due to the old tank size I think I stunted his growth - how bad is that for the fish? The tail only seems to be growing longer and longer, and my parents don't seem to want to get a bigger tank due to her lack of growth.

I just put two mystery snails in the tank as well, but her tail is now longer than her body and she measures about 2' in total: I'm worried about her being lonely but don't want to overcrowd the tank. Is there any advice on what to do in this situation?

Along with that, I was reading some threads earlier and it seems like sand is better than gravel for goldfish. Is there any bad side to gravel other than choking? The gravel pieces we have right now are too big for him to suck up.

I'm really worried about this situation: is there any advice for what I can do with lil ol goldie? Thanks!

Which One?

Which One?

I've been trying to cycle my tanks and it's been months. I've been using SeaChem Stability and for me it did nothing, I've already wasted 4 bottles of it. Does anybody have any good nitrifying bacteria products that I can use besides stability and dr tims? ( I started doing a fish less cycle with flakes and then a couple of weeks ago, I got 2 orandas, so now I'm doing a fish in cycle and still my tank isn't cycled)

Fish Lice infestation medication

Posted: 23 Jul 2020 04:58 PM PDT

Hello everyone, my 75 gallon goldfish tank has recently been infected by fish lice. There are probably 8 on each of my 6 goldfish and I'm not sure if pulling them individually will be the end all cure since I've pulled one a few weeks ago and thought it was a done deal.

I was wondering what kind of medication would work best. The ones I have on hand are ich-x, seachem paraguard and cupramine. Personally I've never had to use these at all as normally I've only had to deal with ich with salt and heat.

I was wondering if anyone knows a medication that could take care of this problem.

My goldfish died after a water change. I think it was due to a sudden change in nitrate levels.

My tank is cycled and the way I know that is because I did a test today and ammonia,, nitrite levels were low but nitrate was high. How do I lower nitrate levels in the tank? My fish was fine until I did a 60% water change and he became lethargic and unable to swim and by the time i realized it was nitrate levels, it was too late.

In the research stages - a few questions from a newbie!

Posted: 23 Jul 2020 07:09 AM PDT

Hi everyone! So I'm in the research stages of acquiring some goldies and I'm just looking for some guidance and to check if I'm missing anything/anything looks wrong. Basically I'm planning on 2 fancies in a heavily planted 45gal tank. Here is my shopping list:

Fluval 45 bow front aquarium (36 x 16 x 20 in) The kit has the tank, hood, filter, heater, thermometer, a net, water conditioner, some "bacteria starter", and some food I won't be using.

Questions about this kit:

  • The filter is a the Fluval C4 model - its rated for 264 Gal/h - I'm aware of the 10x rule, but will this suffice for 2 babies and I can add more filtration later if need be?

  • Does the bacteria starter actually do anything? If so, at what point do I add it? I was planning on using household ammonia for cycling (the idea of having rotting fish food or shrimp unnerves me!)

Other bits on my list:

  • Master water test kit

  • Ammonia alert/monitor

  • Air pump, tubing, airstones/bubble walls

  • Substrate - Caribsea Peace River Sand (I read they love foraging in this) or Seachem Fluorite sand (I read this is great for plant growth) - how much sand for a thin layer but enough to secure plants in a 45 gal tank?

  • Plants (aiming for a heavily planted under water jungle!)

  • Decor - large river rocks and driftwood (wanna go au naturel!)

  • Vacuum/Siphon, Sponge, bucket, assorted cleaning bits

  • Food - I read New Life Spectrum is good but I only see option for large pellets at my local store - how do I feed babies? Crumble them?

  • First aid kit (salt, treatments, quarantine tub, etc)

Another question.. So I went into Petsmart to do some window shopping/reconnaisance.. and I kind of fell in love with a little one-eyed black moor baby. I'm guessing he'll be gone by the time I'm ready to bring some babies home, but it made me wonder - could he live a fulfilling life with one eye? Also there were others that had parts of their fins missing. Would they be likely to grow them back with proper care? They were all about an inch in length so still quite young. (And yes I know it's bad to buy live animals from these big chain pet stores and I will make every effort to acquire my fish from a reputable place, but it also made me think.. my $5 fish purchase makes little difference to Petsmart's bottom line either way. But it would make a big difference to these little ones' lives!)

Anyway thank you for reading - any feedback, guidance, etc is greatly appreciated!
