Visited my local LFS today and got my boys (Lopan, Jack, and Wang) an air pump and a master test kit. Ammonia is in safe level and Nitrites are going down it would seem. Happy dudes playing in the bubbles.

Can a goldfish change color? The guy at the bottom was “fish” (green brown) color for a year. Now this year he’s lost all darkness except a bit on his fins. What gives?

Lopan, front. Jack, right. And Wang, top.

I don’t know how to help them (more in comments)

Can you feed ants to goldfish?

They'd eat bugs that fall into ponds anyways right?

Is it possible to air pump to much air into a tank or over filter?

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 07:44 PM PDT

I ran into another problem though and I can't find any clear or reputable answers.

I got a temporary tank (a third the minimum size I actually need) since the one I needed came broken - but hey it came early. All my equipment is for the 30 so I was wondering if (A) the air pump will put too much oxygen in the water and kill the fish or (B) the filter (300gph) will filter to much and kill the fish.

I'm questioning because some websites say I may need an even stronger filter for 30g so that might mean it be would be okay? But they might just be trying to sell so idk

If it is too much, is there any way I can alternate them on and off to make it okay?

Lots of questions I don't even ask that much for taking care of my cat

What is this parasite?

The project continues :) almost there! Fishies gonna love their new home. Lot of work doing it on your own!!!

Why aren’t my fish reproducing? Every year I’ve had 7-10 babies that grew up till this year. Nothing has changed except now there are 14 goldfish 1-3 years old in a 2,000 gallon pond.

Telescope/Oranda Spawning??

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Hey so my telescope keeps chasing around my oranda and the oranda is rather fat and plum and the telescope had breeding stars... so im pretty sure they're male/female and they're spawning. The problem is that the telescope goldfish has rlly bad eyesight and cant really keep up with the oranda. Will that prevent them from breeding, is there anything i can do about it? Also, would the babies be viable?

Is this ich on my goldfish?

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 12:42 PM PDT

I keep seeing white spots on the fins of my goldfish. Seems to be getting worse. I tried a ich treatment for 2 weeks but they seemed to stick around. I've attached some pictures to hopefully show the white spots.

Is this ich and should I treat again?

Thanks

New Tank Filtration

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 12:02 PM PDT

Howdy!

We have a 55 gallon tank that I thought was a 75, but I checked and turns out it's 55. We plan to have 2-3 fancies in it and want lots of plants.

We use to have fish in it but due to bad care all the fish died. We're trying to do it right this time so I'm not getting fish til everything is completely set up.

We currently have 1 aquatech 30-60 filter, but I don't think it's enough filtration. I see that some people use two? Also I see people talking about filter media and that it should stay? Can someone give me a crash course on filters and how they should work or have a place to link me to?

I plan on cycling the tank, but should I plant plants before or after cycling the tank?

Thanks!

Comet bloated on one side after food

Posted: 11 Jul 2020 07:02 AM PDT

This is a weird one, I have a 5 year old goldfish & for a long time now, probably over a year, he seems to bloat on one side, (just in front of the poop shoot) after eating. It always goes away but it keeps coming back. It doesn't happen when he eats peas, which he does every other day, but any other food type & it will almost always occur, to varying degrees, it's quite bad today & his fins are clamped so I thought I'd see what others think.

There's another comet in the tank with him & they never have this problem so it can't be an issue with the food I wouldn't have thought, we never feed them floating food, but I dunno, is there a fish equivalent to gluten intolerance or something? Sorry I can't get a good pic, but hopefully you get the idea
