I went on holiday for a week and Houdini changed colour! Bottom was before and top after (sorry about the photo quality but he just can't stop swimming!) I love watching my fry grow

[HELP] I spotted this little bugger hanging around the water fountain near the surface since yesterday and whenever it stopped moving, it'd float up slightly. Now I've been aclimmating it to a makeshift hospital tank and it's chilling without coming up once. What's happening?

I see a lot of people here recommend sand for tanks, but I read this on a website. What does everyone here think?

Apologies for the yucky video - Is this a comet fry or a koi fry? Came from my pond which contains both. About half an inch long.

I am completely 100% open to suggestions! I have only ever owned bettas in 5-10 gallon planted tanks, so this would be my first big tank!

I currently own a 40g breeder, but I think I want to go bigger because I'm having a hard time finding a suitable stand and lid for the tank. Biggest I can go though would probably be a 65gal.

I haven't committed to a number of fish yet, or a breed, but I do really love fancies and Black Moores! I was thinking of probably rescuing them from some crappy person off OfferUp or Craigslist (worst I've seen was someone keeping 5 fancies in a 3.5 gal).

I was thinking of doing a bare bottom tank and then some tall Java Ferns glued to rocks in the corners of the tanks, and some Anubis scattered about. But I was also thinking about not even bothering with live and just doing fake plants because I could do a more decorated tank that way. Do Goldfish care about hiding spaces at all? I still want the tank to be pretty (and I love a heavily planted tank), but I know they will eat and uproot everything!

I want to do sponge filters just because I love the look of the bubbles and how they aerate the tank. But I am not opposed to HOBs.

How do I keep the water cool enough for them? I know they like cold water, but I live in Phoenix, AZ where the room temperature at my house is usually around 76-78, sometimes the tanks will get up to 80 without a heater depending on the time of day. I don't really have to worry about the temp with my bettas since they prefer warm water, but I know Goldies don't. Would the room temp be fine in the summer? In the winter, the coldest it gets in the house is like 65. Would I need a heater then?

Any input is appreciated! Thank you!

Swim bladder issue?

My mom decided to set up a gold fish tank. She doesn't research before getting fish and has already killed one by cooking. Think she added fish too fast and one got beaten up and is now floating upside down. We are guessing he was beaten up because there are red dots all over him and what looks like a black bruise under his right fin. Is there any point in trying to quarantine him or is euthanizing him the better option?

Edit: fish passed. I preemptively quarantined and he passed soon after.

new white fantail not acting normal. advice please.

i know nobody likes questions about "what's wrong with my fish" but i recently bought two. a telescope and fantail. (both young and around 5cm-7cm long)while the telescope is doing well eating exploring its tank and such the fantail is barely swimming and just floating around in random areas. not eating and allowing itself to even get stuck in a plant after the filter had pushed him there. and not even trying to get out at all. no effort. everything online says it's my tank but it's clean and has the right levels. hence the other fish doing okay. is it possibly disease? or just not coping well to the new tank? sorry if it's something obvious very new to my goldfish.

help with tank transfer

Posted: 29 Jul 2020 11:38 AM PDT

hello! i adopted a 3 year old goldfish last month, and as much as the previous owner insisted that he stay in a 10 gal, i don't think that's correct. i just bought a 20 gal and want to transfer him asap, but i've never transferred a fish to a large tank before. anyone have any advice for how to go about the switch? i want to keep him as healthy as possible but don't want to shock him. thanks!!
