Goldfish keeping is more than a hobby Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:55 PM PDT I have loved fish my entire life. They are probably my top favorite animal to study, keep, observe in the wild, catch, eat (can I say that?) but I get the most joy from keeping goldfish. Keeping goldies is more than a hobby. Goldfish are pets. I have kept many types of fish and goldfish are different. They are so special. They are 100% domesticated meaning we don't have to steal them from the wild, they come in infitine colors and patterns, they are peaceful, social, friendly, they recognize their favorite people and they can even be trained to do simple tricks! I can only afford one fish tank and my fish of choice was goldfish. It gives me so much joy to watch my goldies swim around the tank together, nibble plants at the surface, follow each other, nom nom for food, and interact harmoniously. They are the fish I feel a real emotional attachment to and I think, unlike most fish, goldfish feel some attachment to their owners too. [link] [comments]

Whats causing this brown water? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 10:37 PM PDT https://imgur.com/a/k0msEIe. This is really annoying me. Never had this issue before. I've cleaned everything in the tank stones included, changed more water than I would have liked at least 50% but I can't get rid of this brown water. It's been like that for 2 weeks now and never settled. I tried using some anti green water additive but it made no difference, tried clear water additive same thing. [link] [comments]
Recommendations on where to order goldfish? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 09:40 PM PDT I have my new tank all set up, so I'll be beginning the cycling process. I'm curious as to where everyone recommends ordering their goldfish from. I'm leaning towards King Koi and Goldfish, as I have a betta from them and am very pleased with the quality and health, but want to make sure I look into as many reputable options as possible before officially deciding. Bonus for anywhere that typically has a decent stock of tricolor orandas! I want to place my order as soon as my tank is finished cycling, so I figured now is a good time to research shops and breeders. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments]
What type of goldfish is this? Posted: 17 Jul 2020 05:47 PM PDT He is about 3 inches long mouth to end of tail. He isn't very active. He is much larger than my fancy goldfish https://prnt.sc/tjxjti [link] [comments]

Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:25 PM PDT Hi! I have a 10 gallon with 2 goldfish (not my choice to keep them in such a small tank, I got them from a woman who wasn't taking care of them and I'm trying to keep them healthy). The brown algae buildup is pretty bad. I haven't gotten any big plants yet (just duckweed) but I'm going to soon. How many mystery snails do you think I can keep in the tank? Keep in mind these two fish are pretty dirty, haha. [link] [comments]
Posted: 17 Jul 2020 02:01 PM PDT Hello friends, a corner seal on our 12+ year, 55 gallon aquarium broke today and half the water spilled out. Luckily, as a family, we scooped every Common Goldfish and whatever water was left into a tub with their filter. We are looking for a great and reliable 60–80 gal. tank (budget probably around $150). What brands to consider and what brands to stay away from and why? I was looking at some dollar per gallon Aqueons and the seals felt funny.. thanks! [link] [comments]
Relocated my 4 goldfish to our 5000L pond today. Question about new found behaviour. Posted: 17 Jul 2020 01:47 PM PDT So, these guys were adopted/rescued by us about 2 months ago and they came in really bad conditions in a 54L tank. Their average size is 10cm and they're 3 common and 1 fancy. They had to stay in that tank waiting for the pond to be done, but I really upped their life quality by giving them regular water changes, adding salts and a more diverse diet. One of them even started regrowing his front fins (he came with severe fin damage). They were added to our new pond this afternoon, and even though they were weary of the new environment, they were active right away - swimming, sifting through the sand, eating like glutons. But later I noticed they would kinda, like, jump? Not all of them, only two. And they wouldn't get their whole body out of the water, only half of it. Is this normal? At first I though they were catching bugs, but then one of them jumped for no reason. From what I've heard, goldfish only jump when something is really wrong, but our water is fine. Is it because they suddenly have so much space to swim around they get excited? They never jumped when they were in the tank. It's probably fine but I'm their mama bear and I worry so much about them. So yeah, is this behaviour normal? Do you guys with goldfish in ponds experience the same thing? [link] [comments]

First Time with Ich please help! Posted: 17 Jul 2020 12:19 PM PDT So I got a new ranchu last week and now he's showing signs of ich. I'll admit I've had 10+ goldfish and I've never dealt with ich before. He's in a 10 gal quarantine rn with a heater upper to 82 and I've dosed the aquarium with salt when I first got him (2 tablespoons for 10gal). Wondering what meds work the best (I live in Canada)? Also any other tips greatly appreciated. How long does it take to get rid of Ich? [link] [comments]
