Happy Tillas. Followed a few tips I got here and I have never seen him so happy and playful before. He had two tank mates (danios) and a few air stones running 24/7. Took those out and re-arranged a few things. The difference has been night and day. Thank you guys.

First time betta owner advice

Posted: 12 Jul 2020 09:57 AM PDT

Okay, so my roommate has been kinda sad lately due to some personal stuff and he really wanted a pet but not something that is super hard to take care of or anything that has a smell like hamsters or cats or lizards. So I asked him if he wanted a fish and he said that would be amazing. Our apartment doesn't allow any fish tanks over 5 gallons and the pet store in town only had super tiny tanks (like liter size), 1 gallons, or 10+ gallons so to start out I just got the 1 gallon one. They had a lot of things for bettas and I didn't really know what to get so this is kind of where I need the advice. They have these suction cup leaves for the side of the tank that the fish rest on or something? Is that absolutely necessary to have? Also does he need any houses/decorations? I don't want to make his little tank too crowded to where he doesn't have room to swim. I got some water pebbles that are blue and I plan to wash those a few times before I put them in the tank in case they give off a color into the water. I got the Aqueon color enhancing food and a water conditioner. Is there anything else I need to start out? I'm giving him to my roommate tonight and I'm pretty excited!

(Fixed flairs) I would like to share in these hard times a picture of my female koi betta Empanadita (little empanada) sleeping soundly in her mushroom house, she goes to rest there every night

Nico was too busy playing in his bubbles to take a good picture but he finally blessed me with a glance. Never wanted a koi but fell for his puppy eyes.
