Is it normal for axolotls to just chill?

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 05:54 AM PDT

Hey there, I've only had my axolotl for about a week and a half now and haven't encountered any issues so far until today. She eats well and generally seems happy. She's pretty chill during the day and super active at night. Normally when I wake up she's still active swimming around but not this morning. I did a 20% water change and checked parameters and everything is good. Temperature is good too and she even ate a night crawler. There are no changes in her appearance. Tank was also cycled prior to getting her. It's almost 11pm now and she has barely moved around. So my question is is it normal for their behaviour to fluctuate like that? Could there be something I'm missing? TIA from a very stressed out new lotl mum

Algae out of control

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 10:17 AM PDT

So I have a bit of an algae problem in my axes tank I clean all of it out every week when I do a water change. It's not too bad but it's just annoying me can I use algae killer to control it or will that harm my axolotl I haven't done that yet because I am worried it will hurt her. Does anyone know if it will?

Trouble with my axolotl :(

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 05:29 AM PDT

So in December I got a golden albino axolotl he was very tiny so can't have been very old and so new he's about 8 months old. How big are they usually at that age? I've always thought he's been quite small because at this point he's around 6 inches maybe a little bigger. In the past 3/4 months I've also been having trouble with him going to the toilet, he doesn't do it very often and when he does his poops are very large and I'm worried this is going to cause problems with his cloaca. I'm not sure if it could be impaction since I caught him chewing on a plastic plant the other day but that has since been taken out. About a week ago I fridged him and he pooped quite a lot but now we're back to square one where he's just not doing it at all. Hes never skipped a meal and he loves his food so I've never had a problem with that, I usually feed him 2 nightcrawler worms a day or some pellets. I've also noticed he's very skittish most of the time, he really doesn't like the cyphen which I use to clean out the tank so when he gets too close he's starts swimming about like crazy and hides wherever he can. Also any recommendations for where to get decent hides would be great haven't had much luck at all, bought one a couple of months ago and he nicked his tail because the insides were very sharp, luckily that healed nicely and very quickly.

Advice

Posted: 19 Jul 2020 08:00 AM PDT

I am moving my 2 axolotls into a 60 gallon aquarium and I don't want sand. I've heard people say they use tile. Can someone give me details on the tile. What? Where? Please and thank you!!!!
