New axolotl owner with tank cycling, HELP! Posted: 22 Jul 2020 06:33 PM PDT Hello! This is my first post here and first-time Axolotl owner! I am waiting on a baby wild type, GFP, with a physical abnormality. I have been prepping for days for this new axie! I am planning to finish getting all my supplies tomorrow and the baby on Friday, but today was when I learnt more about cycling your tank and I feel really bad for not knowing about that! I have heard that it is impossible to cycle a tank in just 24 hours, so my anxiety and stress levels are through the roof now! I was wondering if I would be able to keep my axolotl in the uncycled tank, as long as I thoroughly watch ammonia levels every day, don't make a mess while feeding, and use treated tap water! I am planning to add only live plants to my tank, a big sponge filter, and I have a water dechlorinator that also claims to detoxify ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate (Seachem Prime). In my city tap water, the levels are: Ammonia: <0.05mg/Liter Nitrite:<0.005mg/Liter Nitrate:0.09 mg/Liter pH:7.6 Please tell me all your opinions and suggestions! Anything helps! Although please be gentle... [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:54 PM PDT Today while cleaning my axolotl tank I noticed a cut on my axolotls back/start of the tail fin thing. There is a bit of blood and it looks like the cut "skin" is still attached. I got him a few months ago in February as a juvenile. When I got him I also got him a hide. Also in his tank is a few ghost shrimp and a couple of snails. I can"t really think of anything that would cause this cut except for maybe something sharp in his hide? Is there anything I need to do to prevent this from happening again and help him heal successfully? Any help is appreciated. https://photos.app.goo.gl/etd9dViNMviSUkT48 [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Jul 2020 03:03 PM PDT Hi everyone! I'm currently cycling my tank and anxiously waiting for it to finish so I can go get my new baby. I've been doing research but have found some differing opinions/recommendations about what to feed a juvenile axolotl. Some keep saying that bloodworms are basically just candy and don't hold a lot of nutrients and substance, and should be fed along with other types of worms, such as the red wiggers. What did you feed your baby ax when you got them? Thoughts? Comments? [link] [comments]

Help with my algae problem please Posted: 22 Jul 2020 04:14 PM PDT I have two axolotls and their tank is constantly being flooded with algae. The water is white cloudy and gooey algae grows on the live and fake plants and structures. I clean it and it's fine for a week and then gets like that again. My levels consistently good. I am going to do another water replacement today and clean the algae off the structures and filter. Should I just toss my live plants out? And are live plants even worth it in an axolotl tank? Thank you! [link] [comments]
No evidence of my axolotl pooping for the last 2 weeks, but no signs of constipation Posted: 22 Jul 2020 03:06 PM PDT Title basically says it all! My axo appears to be completely healthy - no signs of stress, no observable infections, normal appetite (1 whole nightcrawler, 2-3 times/week), normal behavior. No signs of constipation like floating or cloacal swelling. Water parameters are good. Temp stays at 66F. 20% water change weekly. Bare-bottom tank so it's very very unlikely that she's impacted. But I have not seen any evidence of poop in her tank for the last two weeks. Normally, even if she walks through it, there's still a patch of like, fecal matter dirt that I clean up. Haven't even seen any of that. What could be going on? Should I fridge her even though she seems healthy otherwise? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Jul 2020 01:53 PM PDT does anyone know what happened to Flymeat.com? The website is gone and I can't find their pellets anywhere. I still have half a bag from about a year ago so I'm not in desperate need of new food, but I do want to know a replacement or where I can find more. [link] [comments] |
