Question about chemistry with axolotl and goldfish Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:16 AM PDT So i want to get an axolotl but i currently only have one tank and It has a black moor goldfish and a fantail goldfish, from what i have read an axolotl can be in a tank with a goldfish but the goldfish's metabolism may be slower than normal. Has anyone tried this and is it doable? [link] [comments]

Inspiration for axolotl set up Posted: 13 Jul 2020 09:24 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm re-doing my axolotls' set up as I'm moving it and need some advice and inspiration. More so inspiration. I'm aiming for a more naturalistic set up, at the moment I've got some slate rock caves, driftwood and live plants on very fine black sand/gravel. Where do you guys go for inspiration or have you got any you wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Getting an axolotl for my girlfriend Posted: 13 Jul 2020 08:32 PM PDT So my girlfriend has been talking about how she's really wanted a fish tank or reptile but her favorite animal is easily the axolotl. As it's her 21st bday coming up, I really wanted to get her one. At the moment this is all I'm aware of needing: Aqueon Standard Glass Aquarium Tank 20 Gallon Long Aqueon QuietFlow LED PRO 20 Aquarium Power Filter Hikari blood worms and then some sort of prop for the Axolotl to hide in. Also a thermometer of some kind. I'm nervous about the cycle thing as well. I don't really understand it. Any advice or help would be very appreciated. I pretty much need everything ELI5 [link] [comments]
Took in a tiger salamander larvae a couple weeks ago, need urgent help Posted: 14 Jul 2020 12:26 AM PDT Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask, but I figured they are so close to axolotls that someone might have some advice. When I got this little guy he went though quite literally hell in shipping, the other one ended up passing from the heat as the seller was extremely irresponsible with shipping them and didnt even bother including ice packs. Ever since I got him he hasn't eaten for me once, I quarantined him in the fridge to keep the temps down and see if he would recover, and then moved him to a cycled 20g long that was my axies old tank. His behavior didn't change and he just continued to get skinnier. At this point I'm freaking out and want to save him but I'm getting hopeless as he just keeps looking worse. He floats a lot, swims sideways, stays in one spot all day long. I've tried pellets, earthworms and minnows on recommendation. I don't know what else to do other than just ride it out and hope he spontaneously makes a recovery. It's been about 3 and a half weeks and he's so tiny now. I haven't noticed any signs of morphing. Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:47 PM PDT Hi friends. I've always admired axolotls and want to get one. I am currently in college, so I live in a dorm room. Do you guys think I would be able to properly care for an axolotl in a dorm or do you think I should just wait till graduation? Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Jul 2020 08:04 PM PDT I'm completely new to the axie life! Someone gave me their little guy with his tank and told me it was cycled and to just keep the parameters where there are. Problem is the nitrates are at 0 , which I had no idea meant it wasn't cycled but now here I am.. all other parameters good Is it bad to have 0 nitrates for my axolotl? [link] [comments]
Posted: 13 Jul 2020 06:59 PM PDT Hello! I am getting a golden albino axolotl! Yay! I do have one question before I set everything though, and it's on care. It may be a silly question, but bare with me. I have set up everything, cycled the tank to establish proper ammonia, nitrite, narrate and pH levels, and have tested and checked the hardness level. I have a pretty standard filter using purigen packets in a 20 gallon long tank. The question is, do I/when should I do water changes? And when I do, do I need to completely cycle it again? Thanks for the help! [link] [comments]

Posted: 13 Jul 2020 12:16 PM PDT Hello! I have two boys. I've been considering getting a third but I'd have to make sure I got a boy. I know most times you can't tell the gender for a year but I was at a pet store today and saw some that were a few months old and appeared to have the bump by their tail which made me wonder if they were boys. Could it be safe to assume these are boys? I remember with my first guy I knew long before the one year mark that he was a boy so I was just curious. Thanks! [link] [comments]
Friend's Axolotl ate a rock. What should we do? Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:39 AM PDT Title pretty much says it. Last night, my friend's axolotl ate a rock a little larger than a pea. Basically, he was digging and when the rock moved, he snapped on it. We can see a lump in his stomach but arent really sure what to do. I definitely think its too large for him to pass, so is there any way to make him throw it up? Any advice on how to proceed would be welcomed. She's planning on removing all the rocks this week and replacing it with sand to stop this from happening again, but obviously, we're worried about him right now. [link] [comments] |
