Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:49 AM PDT I'm still pretty new to owning axies so idk if this is an issue of just normal behaviour but one of my axolotls is into bitting my fingers when I put my hand in his tank ( he's even bitten my other ones leg off , he's in quarantine don't worry) I was wondering how to get this to stop. He's on a diet of 2-3 earthworms every two days if that's necessary info. Thx [link] [comments]

I have my tank setup but I need a way to chill the water temp bc the temperature is 73 in the tank rn. He was supposeded to come in tomorrow but he going to be coming a day early so i don't know what to do. (Btw, thanks in advance) Update: The tank is now @ 68 I have little fan towards the tank, and i am continuing to switch out ice bottles :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jul 2020 04:34 AM PDT I thought I had my tank cycled, It was at 0 am. 0 ni and 10 na. I put my lil buddy in the tank on Monday and I check the water parameters twice a day to make sure its good for now, i checked this morning and it spiked to 1ppm ammonia! I tubbed him for the time being. Can anyone help me fix this? I used angels plus activated filter to help with the cycling which it did quickly but it obviously can't handle the bioload of the axie. I spot cleaned its poop so there hasn't been any in the tank [link] [comments]

What would happen if you cut an axolotl exactly by half? Posted: 30 Jul 2020 02:00 AM PDT I've heard stories about these little guys being almost destroyed and then recovering more than half of their body. This has me thinking if they can recover even their heart and their brain (if what I've read is correct), what would happen if an axoltl gets cut exactly by it's half in a longitudinal way? First of all, could it survive? And if so, would it recover one half or would it clone itself? In case only one half gets recovered, how can you tell wich one has priority? To be clear, I don't own an axolotl and I don't plan to hurt any animal, this is just a question I ask out of curiosity. [link] [comments]
Posted: 30 Jul 2020 01:01 AM PDT I have a 55 gallon tank and am about to take on four axolotls of the same sex. I wanted to know what water chiller you might recommend for this size tank, as well as what pumps should be used for the recommended water chillers. Additionally, I have purchased the Penn Plax Cascade CCF3UL canister filter Is it possible to hook up a water chiller to the canister filter in order to only have one intake/output system within the tank for both? Thank you all for your thoughts! [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Jul 2020 02:22 PM PDT I've recently been ignoring Greg for the last few months. Still feeding him but no treats or special attention. I've decided to make up for that by giving Gregory a special week! How do I give him treats and such that he will love other than food. Please spread so I can make Gregory happy again he deserves it. I need some advice for my axolotl. Posted: 29 Jul 2020 04:42 PM PDT Normally I'm on here handing out tips and axolotl information, but I've run into an issue I don't know how to resolve. My axolotl is very old, by my estimate she's nearly 20 years old. She recently has lost a lot of her appetite and is losing weight, she also has begun floating from time to time. Her parameters are spot on, her water temperature is in the ideal range. I think she may be at the end of her journey. I don't know what to do, she's clearly not well, but do I let nature take it's course, do I get her to a vet or do I take matters into my own hands? For once I'm at a loss for what to do. If she still has some quality of life I want to maintain that, but if she's suffering I don't want her to suffer anymore than is necessary. So any advice or words of wisdom? [link] [comments]
Posted: 29 Jul 2020 08:53 PM PDT So I know some people say this is dangerous but i've also read from lab studies that they do this naturally to maintain balance and weight, impaction only being an issue with actual large gravel. After this I also got to thinking after doing some dabs wouldn't this be beneficial to their gut flora? the beneficial bacteria in the sand would most likely end up in their stomachs right? Might be a bit too scientific for this sub but doubt i'd get an answer anywhere else [link] [comments]
