Posted: 03 Jul 2020 03:11 AM PDT My green mystery snail has gotten into a bit of a terrible situation, I have a problem with pest snails in my aquarium and I really didn't think too much of it until today when I noticed for the third day in a row that my snail hadn't left it's shell. I immediately thought that he'd died and took him out to inspect and I saw that he had baby bladder snails eating away at his shell, had gotten into the soft part of his body and were eating him alive, he doesn't stink so I think he's not dead yet, I removed the baby snails and put my mystery in an empty plastic container with some snello. I'm just wandering if there's anything else I can do? He hasn't moved at all and I'm wandering if I should just put him out of his misery or if there's any further treatment I can do to help him? Edit: he's just started to open his shell, I think I'll keep him in the quarantine container until I've gotten rid of as many past snails as I can since I don't want this happening again [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2020 05:42 AM PDT To give you some background, I have a 10 gallon Walstad tank containing lambchop rasboras, cherry shrimp, 3 adult and 2 juvenile mystery snails (and an egg case-worth of newly hatched babies), some ramshorns and a crap ton of bladder snails (I posted earlier about it here). My fish and shrimp had been dying even though my ammonia, nitrates and nitrites were consistently at 0. With some help, I discovered that my TDS were high (490) so I did a couple of water changes with rainwater and have since brought it down to 226. The fish are feeling much better, but my mystery snails are all still not behaving normally. The odd thing is, even though the TDS had been that high for awhile and the fish were not ok, the mysteries had been doing great; they even laid 4 clutches of eggs a few weeks ago (all of which have since hatched and been divided into multiple tanks, including this one). Shortly after the first egg case hatched and the babies were released into this tank, things started to go wonky with everybody (I don't know that the two events correlated, but I can't ignore the coincidence). I lost two fish and a shrimp (possibly both: I haven't found the other one). All my mysteries started slowing down, becoming lethargic. I would find them on their sides, partly out of their shells. It would be one thing if it were one or two snails doing this, but it is all of them! The ramshorns I think have all perished, as I haven't seen a live one in quite some time (he bladder snails are all fine, but I've found them to be incredibly tough compared to other snails). The tiny baby mysteries are still alive, but not moving around nearly as much as the babies in my other Walstad tank just below it (which has many more mysteries--juviniles--who are all doing just fine). Any idea what might cause mystery snails to be affected this way? Do the hatched eggs have anything to do with it? Also, I made snello recently and have been feeding all my tanks with it. The mysteries in my other tanks are all fine and active and healthy. It's just the mysteries in this tank who are having issues! [link] [comments]
Is it possible for snails to dislike a big tank? Posted: 02 Jul 2020 07:00 PM PDT My nerite snail is being really lazy and not cleaning my tank, I got them because I'm having a bit of an algae problem and they just sits there doing nothing. It's beens over 2 weeks since I got them and as test I put them in a 0.5 gallon tank and they're barely in and they start zooming around. Never seen them so happy and energetic. Posted: 02 Jul 2020 09:47 AM PDT I just got my first aquarium with a few fish and two mystery snails. I was just curious because the petsmart people said they will eat fish food that falls to the bottom, is this true? [link] [comments]

What type of snail is this in my tank? Pic in comments Posted: 02 Jul 2020 06:16 PM PDT Bought java ferns and then 4 of these snails popped up. Does anyone know what type of snail this is? Picture in comments. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Jul 2020 07:18 AM PDT Hi I just got 2 red spotted snails and I was wondering how often and how much i should feed them? The pellets i got said to feed them twice a day but I've read a lot of conflicting information about feeding aquatic animals. Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments] |
