Posted: 26 Jul 2020 02:21 PM PDT Hello all. I am a newbie to the world of Koi keeping, though not necessarily to fish keeping. A couple months ago, we moved from our house to my late father's. We put the pond in to avoid having to lug the giant aquarium down that housed a couple fair goldfish. Through trials and tribulations, not limited to ammonia in our well water, to our contractor not plumbing the overflow drain, I think we are finally in good shape. I have five koi ranging from 3 to 8 inches, and three goldfish. The pond is around 1100 gallons, with a leader clear answers 3 pump, several Matala pads and a decent size bag of pond matrix, plus an appropriate amount Purigen. We also have a UV clarifier. Water is crystal clear, nitrates are 5.0 ppm (ammonia/nitrite at 0), and everything else is perfect. I joined this community, because as I have discovered, there is a lot of contradictory information everywhere I look. We have a river rock bottom currently, and everywhere I go online it tells me that I should not do that, but every contractor I've reached out to tells me I should… same with dosing Algaefix... in a couple years we will probably add on, if not double the volume. I did not realize how addicting getting new fish could be! [link] [comments] |
